Abstinence is a form of contraception.

This is a debate that I have with my PE teacher a lot! I say it is'nt, but he says it is. When I ask other teachers they say that it's not but 'In context' it is.

I would like to settle the score once and for all, and shove it in his face.

Contraception: the deliberate prevention of conception or impregnation by any of various drugs, techniques, or devices; birth control.

I would say abstinence counts as a technique to prevent pregnancy.

Side: It is.

Abstinence is the most effective contraception, it is 100% effective. Not one woman has ever become pregnant following abstinence.

Sex is a form responsibility, and taking part in the activity must have responsibility attached, therefore, either it is parenthood or the right contraception that being abstinence or condoms.

Unless she is raped, or artificially inseminated.

Unless she is raped, or artificially inseminated.

Now that is not abstinence now is it, it is rape or artificially inseminated.

Those are separate issues. Stay on topic.

Abstinence is a voluntary restraint from indulging in bodily activities that are widely experienced as giving pleasure as opposed to rape is involuntary or AI is a alternative choice for voluntary impregnation.

if you are abstaining strictly for non-pregnancy reasons (medical condition, god told you to wait until marriage, etc), then no, but if you are abstaining in order to prevent conception then yes abstinence is a form of contraception.

I would say stop having these types of conversations with PE teacher. Its PE there is a reason why hes not teaching real classes plus its wierd to talk to students about sex unless its sex ed or health class.

Contraception is a way to prevent pregnancy while having sex. Abstinence is the avoidance of sex.

In order to be contraception it must be a part of sexual intercourse or foreplay. Calling abstinence a form of contraception is similar to calling clear a colour.

I cannot find any other source that refers to a contraceptive as something that must be a part of sexual intercourse or foreplay. The definition states that anything, tangible or not, that prevents conception is a contraceptive.

What led you to define it the way you did?

The need to have a specific divide so that, for example, missing an important date due to a traffic jam doesn't make the traffic jam (or lateness) a form of contraception.

You need to use a method or technology while having sex for it to count as a contraceptive. Lack of sex couldn't be a contraceptive without making any and all distractions and interruptions to sex contraceptives themselves.

Side: It is not.

Thats like saying driving your car is a form of contraception, in fact doing anything except having sexual intercourse by this argument is a form of contraception, oral sex or masturbation is also a form of contraception. This doesn't work, how can abstinence be contraception as in order for it to be a contraceptive the act has to take place and the conception has to be blocked.
