A complete family brings happiness to one's life and aids in the child's growth.

Side: Yep!

Hell yeah! Children are the future and you want them brought up by the smarter parent. The parent with the better job is usually the smarter parent. Dads are usually the smarter parent because they usually have the better job. This is also why Dads usually end up paying child support. ;)

Any parent, regardless of gender, is important. That would include fathers...so yes.

Well, about 70% of African American teens do not know their father who are born out of wedlock.

50% of African American teens drop out of High School.

We also notice a large amount of gang activity from African American youth as well as large poverty levels.

I do know that a father FIGURE is important. you need that masculine parent for a healthy childhood. as well as a feminine parent.

Dads are important since...well, there's a reason for people to keep emphasizing the need of a nuclear family with the mum and dad intact, isn't it? As shown in various psychological studies, regular contact with a father figure leads to fewer psychological problems in girls and fewer behavioral problems in boys. For low-income children, this contact also leads to a lower chance of criminal activity and improved language and reasoning skills. Therefore, this proves that dads are important. =)

I think Dad's are important in a heterosexual relationship just as I think two loving, caring and giving people are important to raise any child on earth.

I have to say that a father figure is VITAL to a young boy. He needs a source of manhood, someone to look up to, someone he can talk to regarding 'male problems or queries'. Even if the father is not a good source when it comes to manhood, by that i am refering to alchoholics and drug addicts, but again, every boy NEEDS his father, regardless of what 'priorities' or 'problems' may force the two apart.

Dads are important, however, it always seems they get a lesser present than Mom gets on Mother's Day.

Side: Yep!

Sure, fathers can be fun to have around, but the important thing in any parent is that they are loving, nurturing, inspiring, and other cliche things, whether it's a father, a mother, or some combination of the two.

I think whoever your parent or parents are, the most important thing is integrity and love. As long as every message your child receives is consistent, and filled with support, your child will respect the message.

I downvoted you because you're wrong, and it's a potentially dangerous kind of wrong. You're on the internet; you have ability to research sources: a number of public organizations and government statistical samples to go through. You should look through them before you come to this kind of conclusion.

Here is a site where you can begin your wonderful journey: http://www.fatherhood.gov/index.cfm

Ill just straight away assume you are a girl. A Father is to be considered the 'manhood role model' of the child, where would he/she be without a Father figure in their lives?

As for your first question, yes, I'm a girl, but that doesn't mean that I asked this question JUST BECAUSE I'm a girl. It was a question from my General Paper, and that I felt that this was a debatable issue.

Onto the next question. Yes, of course having a dad around for a father figure in your life is great. But, having a father doesn't mean that he can be a real father to his kids. In this modern society, parents work long hours, and they do not spend enough time with their kids. So if the father is not long around enough to bond with the child, what kind of father figure is he? Some fathers are alcoholics or drug abusers, etc. For situations like that, don't you think that dads are not important?

Of course, I'm not saying that dads are not important at all. But it really depends on what type of 'dad' you get, don't you think?
