Can you live with out love?

A song once told me that all I would need is love.

But can we actually live with out it? or is it so wired in to our brains that it has now become a phsyical need?

I look foward to hearing your opinions.

Yes

No

Side Score: 5

In terms of survival, sure.

I don't see any reason why love is a requirement for life, so in theory at least one can live without love. Certainly, there have been cases of individuals surviving just fine with disorders that prevented them from feeling most emotional extremes.

Side: Yes

Yeah. Love doesn't have anything to do with our metabolism like air and food do, so running on empty, while emotionally problematic, should not be life-threatening (unless it makes you suicidal, which is not a 100% probability.)

Physically of course. Air, water, and nutrition. That's all we really need to live. We hook people up to machines all the time to give them those necessities. Little more than that.

A quick search of the definition 'live' will tell you def: to remain alive. A search of the word 'alive' will tell you def: living, not dead.

Can you live without love? Yes. The main arguments for the side against, is that you are not truly living if you only exist. This is technically wrong. Being alive, just means being alive. No hidden text or message between the lines. Plain and simple.

It is all up to how you interpret the word 'live'.

Side: Yes

People who never had parents who loved them, never had a really awesome friend who loved them or a partner usually are extremely messed up. You can probably survive without love, but you will become extremely weird and you will have an extremely hard time fitting in to our society.

Love is not a human thing - tons of species feel love for each other too, especially for their youngs.

Side: No

In terms of practicality, probably not.

It's not so much that we're wired with a 'need' for love, so much as that we're wired with a proclivity for love. In practice, unless one isolates oneself entirely from the preferred gender(s), I think falling in love is an inevitability- barring non-standard neurological/hormonal makeup, at least.

Side: No

"Love" is such a vague term. Can a person live without loving their country? Can a person live without loving anybody? Can a person live without loving themselves?

Personally, I think that love/attachment is one of the many qualities that defines a "person". Living without "love" is (I feel) impossible.
