Yes, you should go to a university .

Well, Brits don't say "a University", they just say "University."

Like, "he's a sick man in hospital."

Side: Yes

More evidence Brits should go to a University to learn to speak properly. =D

All trolling aside, as it stands it sounds like hes referring to a specific University, like Berkeley is the UC, or SF is the city; here if you say "the city" or the UC," people know you're talking about San Francisco and Berkeley respectively, even though other cities and UCs have the same name. Like if he lived in London and the main college in London is referred to as "University," it sounds like he's talking about that.

But hey, you learn something new every day, so thanks for your correction.

It would appear you think I may have made an error; that is not the case.

As you may have heard, there are exceptions to every rule. This is onebof those exceptions and therefore I have made no error.

I find it, as Axemeister mentioned, amusing that you seem to think people in Britain speak incorrectly, when your language is derived from ours'. I can find several faults with the American language.

I enjoy poking fun at patriotic British nationalists almost as much as I enjoy making fun of the blind nationalists of my own country. It would be a mistake to take anything I say belittling England or English customs seriously, but then, it would also be a mistake to take any of the pompous, arrogant, narrow-minded flag waving you hear (from nationalists like yourself) seriously, either. So I think we're even.

Also clarifying doesn't show up on my activity feed, just thought I'd clear that up.

Of course, further your education, and get a life! Instead of winding up cleaning the lavatories in Tescos!

Unless you are not looking for an academically-demanding job I do not think that you can go very far without some qualifications (if you do, you are one of few). I know that there are some exceptions such as those with jobs in ICT, where if they attended university their knowledge would quickly become obsolete. However , academic careers are usually those best-paid and most rewarding. They are very competitive because of this and going to university can help beat some of the competition - if you can get in.

Side: Yes

If you want to get a job which requires a uni qualification, then yes. If I can't get a scholarship I'm going to have to move to Sweden, because I can't afford 10 grand a year.

If you would rather get a more simple job, go ahead.

Does it just have to be a University or can it be a community college or something. You do not have to just go to a University to start out with. If money is a problem then you could think of starting out at a community college which is a million times more affordable then a University. Then if you want to continue your education after you graduate with an associate's degree then you can transfer to a University and only have to pay 2 years worth of tuition at the University price. I had a professor once say that higher education is not for everyone. Me personally, I think everyone should seek out higher education.

It totally depends on your choice. You can make a living without a degree

However not going to a university can somehow restrict and narrow your job opportunities.

Side: Yes

The education will liberate the mind and a college degree will find nice employment.

It depends what you want to do.

In the USA, it is extremely expensive and will put you into debt, unless you are already rich.

Most people are not, so for most people to pursue higher learning, it would be a waste. Most skills and talents cannot be learned through books, so going to a technical college is adequate, and even that is not necessary.

Of course, with the rising population and the decrease of jobs due to simple ways to manufacture things with robots, robots taking over everywhere, really, computers at least, there are few and fewer things for a person to be good at.

Building a house? That's something robots can't do yet, yet, the housing market is flooded. There are enough empty houses to give a home to every homeless person, I've read.

Food? With companies like Monsanto, that grow genetically engineered crops for cheap, it is pointless to grow your own. Farmers markets exist, but you wouldn't go to one every time you needed new food, unless you lived near one.

Making shoes? Once, cobblers and shoe makers existed, but now that position is filled by massive corporations.

Same with clothing. It's all robotically mass produced.

Computer stuff is also mass produced, except for code, but code has never been necessary to life, so unless you are very good, it is unlikely that you will enjoy the rest of your life. It is not the most social activity, and it takes a high degree of skill and competence. In my programming class, half the class dropped out the first week, with others dropping out after the first semester, even more dropping out the next semester, and the next, even more have dropped out. It is not easy.

And what about making bowls or cups or forks and knives? Unless you charge high amounts of money to very rich people who want homemade utensils, that is useless.

There are very few jobs left, it seems.

I recommend inventing things, complex things to further eliminate jobs.

I see a bleak future if people can't accept that there are very few jobs left for humans. It is best to start putting in place laws and policies that can get money to people without any. I doubt these people are lazy, yet working fast food their entire life is not what they wanted when they went deep into debt during university.

If you can read and study on your own, then I recommend it. If you want to get into a science, then I do recommend university, but if you do not want to become a scientist or a published writer of philosophy or history, then no, it is not a good idea to go to university.

Should you go to University

No.

Scholars & journalists are overrun by midwits who are overwhelmingly wanna-be all-stars. Hence, the desire to manipulate, lie, fraud, exert control, etc. etc.

Edit:

Midwit- Above average in intelligence, though not highly intelligent. Think of the negative counterpart of 'halfwit', or a dim person, though not retarded. On the spectrum of extremely unintelligent to extremely intelligent, with average in the middle, halfwit is midway between extremely unintelligent and average, while midwit is halfway between average and extremely intelligent.
