Why hasn't the US helped Mexico build as a country?
Consider the facts that many Americans get upset about the fact that many Mexicans have crossed the border, have "taken" American jobs and Spanish is basically the most spoken language other than English. Why are Americans prejudice against the Mexican nation? Obviously the drug cartels are an enemy against the United States, due to the 'war on drugs'. What can America do to help Mexico? How much funds are actually sent to Mexico to aid them? Will America eventually become completely against Mexicans entering the United States, legally and all the above? What do you think?
Funny, I don't remember Mexico helping America, but I do remember the US agreeing to NAFTA and allowing for Mexico to sell their cheap goods to America which made helped the Mexican people.
Why would anyone want to make anything in America? We live in the 21st century, its a global economy. Since America's economy is overly regulated and taxed, most business have packed up, left and started doing business in other places where they can actually make a profit and compete.
That is what I think, however, it will not happen unless we start deregulating the economy or being isolationists. Choice is yours.
There is no problem with China, Mexico and Brazil making cheap plastic crap, but when were buying everything, then it becomes a problem. We don't need to manufacture out own dog toys.
America does business in China because it is cheaper and they can make a profit and compete, lol. That's quite sad when you think about it. Our own government has trouble keeping a stable economy to efficiently produce its own products.
I do remember Mexico fighting for land that was previously theirs and got pushed back to what is now Mexico, same thing happened to native americans and so on before them, except there are no true indian lands, they're buried beneath America filth these days.
"And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free!"
If your referring to Texas, Texas was originally not part of America or Mexico, it was its own nation. After the Mexican-American war it joined America.
I was referring to the south west of America, including texas, sure. Texas was considered a province of Mexico, mexicans were chilling. Then America conquered those lands to expand their nation.
No, Texas was its own republic. They were fighting the Mexicans, American intervened and later on Texas joined the union. Just because the American's ancestors sinned does not mean that generations later they should have to pay for it.
True, however why is America helping Iraq, or some of the African nations? Or even Afganistan? They're thousands of miles. Is it simply because of the oil? Perhaps there is nothing considered beneficial in Mexico for the US?
Mexico has a shit ton of oil yo! You suggested that the US is only interested in Iraq, Afghanistan etc... because of oil, Afghanistan has ZERO oil... We deal with different countries for different reasons. You can't compare the two.
Plus, Mexico is one of the most wealthy Latin American countries... They're also corrupt as all hell. What would be the point of adding to the corruption?
Yes of course Mexico has oil. My original statement wasn't stating that there is, or is not oil in Afghanistan. I intended to point out the fact that America is in any regions of the Middle East not for their health, but for the power and oil is potential power.
Mexico is corrupt as hell, and our country has corruption within, no doubt. America is the most wealthy nation in the world, and Mexico is on the lower end of the stick.
So you find it ill advised for the two countries to have more friendly relations with each other because they're corrupted, and that's it? ...
Not much can be done to "build" Mexico as a country when their government is so unbelievably corrupt. However, supposing it wasn't so corrupt, I don't advocate stretching tax payer dollars even further to build their infrastructure when the US is struggling economicaly.
So Mexico is doomed because of their corruption? Oh, that means America is doomed for the same reasons. I beg to differ. These arguments are very pessimistic considering the circumstances and potentiality of talked about countries. I believe in America, that it can get less corrupt and better just as I believe Mexico can become a better country, with help. Either way you look at it, many responses here are "why should we?", and I find that pretty pessimistic considering they are our neighbors. And it's not like we're at war with them, our military would shred them. However, I see no problem with our country helping theirs, and theirs helping ours, regardless of corruption.
You suggest that we could help Mexico to improve its corruption, thus giving us the ability to help them econmically...but you don't give any specifics about how that could actually work. If a country is run by a very corrupt government (and yes, Mexico is more corrupt than the U.S.) the chances are very good that whatever financial aid you give them for specific purposes will be used for other purposes. Kinda like in the U.S. when people that invested in Social Security retire and are still unable to collect money because the greedy bastard government spent it all.
So, in short you underestimate how useless the efforts to help Mexico truly are based on the "circumstances" and "potentiality of talked about countries".
I think the reason being is that Mexico is a democracy that has its own government in place despite the cartels and pride might be a factor. After all we did invade them in the past and hurt feelings and suspicion of the US might be the reason why they want to do it all by themselves. Also the war on drugs employs thousands of people on the other side of the fence, we have the ATF, DEA, ICE, not to mention weapon contractors that make money off of the war on drugs.
That's an entirely different discussion. I understand your stand point, but that wasn't the question asked. And that's a question being answered by a question.
Allright, we are haveing enonomic issues of our own. We can't afford it. And that is my oppion. If they want to build their country they should do it them selves.
