i think there are a variety of reasons to resist consumerism, but im not sure that global warming is one of them. consumerism is not a significant contributing factor to global warming. it has more of an impact of pollution. energy production and consumption is far more significant. although material production uses energy, if it used cleaner and more efficient energy then that would have at least as much of an impact as a reduction in consumption. at any rate, we are rather past the point of return when it comes to global warming. accepting that and turning our attention to how to mitigate its effects on human and non-human existence would be more prudent. im also not sure that slowing down our fast paced lives and appreciating what we have already achieved would reduce consumerism much. but im also not entirely clear on what you mean by either of these things, so perhaps i am mistaken. If any wish to do that, yes, it will help. However, there are many things we can do and still maintain our lifestyle. Getting rid of fossil fuels as fast and as much as "possible", minimizing the use of plastics, developing alternate energy sources, and, first of all, getting rid of Rump and his EPA Destructor!
