While governments can be beneficial, they are not at all needed. All benefits that come from having a government are relative to how the government is run. Quality of food or water could be made worse (Flint, Michigan), there could be very little food at all (Pre-revolutionary France), relations with other countries would be terrible (North Korea). The entire concept of government was constructed by human imagination for order and protection, but it is a very real possibility that the government can become corrupt, and be harmful to the majority of peoples. Humans are compassionate by nature, we developed a powerful packbonding ability to work in large groups as an extreme evolutionary advantage. We would still be helping each other without the government, and many issues that lead to violent crimes, namely issues surrounding money, wouldn't exist, so one could make the argument that there would be less crime without government. Overall, even though having government can provide many benefits, it can also be extremly harmful, and is not neccesary for human life.
