Are there really such things as "facts"?

Or are they merely just perception? Is there not a loophole for everything? Is everything not arguable?

Do we really have to sink down to this cesspit of debauchery again? Are there really such things as "facts"? Yes. YEs. YES.

Fact 1) You are reading this post. You are not in some cybernetic matrix where robots are telling you what to think/do.

Fact 2) Facts are supported by evidence. ie alcohol consumption leads to decrease of inhibition, increase of false confidence, and possibly decrease in potency for males. (Just as examples, may be wrong... which brings us to the next point...)

Fact 3) well known "facts" can be disproven. That is when overwhelming evidence suggests otherwise. ie when people used to think that we live in a geocentric galaxy but we now nkow we live in a heliocentric galaxy.

I sincerely apologize to my epistemology teacher who might be foaming right now after seeing me use cliched fact after cliched fact but it is simply the easiest way to explain things.

So what does this tell us? Evidence can strongly suggest that facts exist. Obviously, if you try jumping 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 times and fallen back to earth, but maybe, just MAYBE, at the very next time, you could fly and thus burn a huge whole into the whole theory of gravity. Therefore, perhaps we can never know 100% whether a fact is true, but we can test, and test, and test, until we get a confidence interval that fact A is true to say... 99.99999%, or at least high enough for most people that are not clinically paranoid to not lose sleep over it.

You are right about facts, but you seem VERY uneducated.

A good brain is in you, but it seems to be empty. ;D

We are in a heliocentric star system, because the sun has the largest gravitational field.

The galaxy has billions of stars. It is NOT heliocentric.

1) I was raging out this argument while procrastinating on a midterm...

2) That was not my main point... i realized obviously afterwards that i shouldn't have wrote the galaxy but i don't think that significantly deviates from my main poin.

So in short... you are slightly better than a Grammar Nazi... you're a physics Nazi. Good job, do you want a medal? If you have a bone to pick, pick it with my main argument. Not with a slight error, especially since this isn't exactly going to be my PhD thesis.

Good brain is about you... actually I can't even say that cuz you didn't even argue against my main point and just nit-picked at the details, so BITE ME. The solar system is heliocentric. Happy now?
