Children Getting Tattoos?

I dont' think it is wrong for children to get tattoos. If i had a daughter of 6 years of age (or a boy) and he/she wanted a tattoo, my first instinct would be "no." But is really getting a tattoo wrong? I don't think so. But if i see a child with a tatoo, i won't say that it is bad parenting when i give it some thought.

It is art on skin. I don't this see as a problem unless the child is a baby because the baby doesn't really have a choice. I won't allow my children to have a tattoo but some parts of me thinks it is "fine." It won't make the child "bad."

I think the problem with tattoos is how it is portrayed in the media. Parents think that tattoos are for those who are into sex and those who are bad. Well, it is the people who are make people bad. Not art.

I think another problem with tattoos is that parents think it is permanent. Tattoos can be removed. This hits me on the head and makes me think of "wash away" tattoos. I bet parents would be fine to let their children have a tinkerbell tattos on their face if it can be washed off.

Seriously, i wouldn't give my child a tattoo unless he or she is 17 or eighteen because children may or may NOT be sure of what they truly want. I don't want my kids to regret it in the long run. Yes, tattoos can be removed but that is painful....i heard.

Even if i see a three year old with a tatoo on his arm, i wouldn't think it is bad. It is common sense but MAYBE im wrong in this situation. Please educate me.

Of course it shows bad parenting. A child is too young to make a decision with something that's going to be permanently on them.

Let them get piercings, they come out and close up. But tattoos cost a lot to get rid of and are very painful to get off.

Think about what you were like as a child. What kind of tattoo would you have wanted at the age of six? Probably something not only stupid, but embarrassing, that you'd want to get removed around the time you hit high school, probably even before that. Your mind changes so much while you are a child, it'd be stupid to let them make that decision.

Actually when i was young, i wanted a chinese dragon tattoo. And to this day, i still wanted that "wash away" tattoo.

Is it wrong because most children don't know what they really want in life? Because what if the children actually wants it and happens to love it through his/her entire life?

Again, is what you are saying true because children don't know what they really want in life?

The chances of that is slim. And so yes, I'm saying that because children don't really know what they want in life. When I was six I wanted to be a vet, but then I grew up a little more an changed my mind. And changed my mind again.

When I was six my favorite show was Barney, now I don't even like tv. You grow up and change, it's not a bad thing but it's just how it is.

I wouldn't say it makes them bad parents, or that the child is bad or rebellious.

But, children wouldn't understand that tattoos are permanent, or that getting them removed would be extremely painful. They wouldn't understand that getting the tattoo itself would be painful for them too.

Most children are impatient, and may have decided to get a tattoo that they won't like a week later.

Not to mention the amount of ink could be harmful for them as children.

There are definitely reasons for age requirements.

Side: wrong

I don't have children, nor younger siblings, nor have been around young children long enough to understand how they mentally work. If what you are saying is true, ok, i understand that it is wrong in that sense.

I guess it depends on what age you define an adolescent leaving childhood, and how old that child is. Personally I see a child as someone below 18, simple. They aren't an adult so that only leaves them as a child. Between 13 and 18 they may be teenagers, but really that's only a branch of childhood, in my opinion anyway.

I tend to go along with the most controversial side in most of my arguments, but I'm gonna have to go along with the mainstream view and say that children getting tattoos is wrong, for no other real reason than that the kid with the tattoo wants to look like a bad ass, and ends up looking like a painted douche bag ;)

Tattoos are stupid really. You have something written on your skin. By the time you are 60, that tattoo is going to look gross and people will want ot through up when they see it. I never understood why people want to have tattoos on their arm or whatever. Saying that it is "art" is just dumb to me. However, that is just me.

Side: wrong

A child should not be allowed to get a tattoo because he is a minor. A tattoo marks up the flesh. I just don't think children should get them.

13 or under is obviously wrong, but 14 or above does not sound like such a bad thing. 80% of children don't Really want a tatoo hey just say they do because the think it looks cool, but once they consider the pain and how perminent it is most do not get it. [16+ can get tatoos today]

Well tattooing is an individual's choice. Some people go for it as they consider it as a style quotient but in my view, children under the age of 17 are not grown ups and parents keeping an eye on such things of their children should no where be seen as a bad thing.
