Christmas in Today's Society

Ha the beloved holiday been turned into a greedy social convention in which people who don't have money are pressuerd into spending it, or is it still about celebrating the birth of Baby Jesus?

I see many people with, "hey, let's buy that, even though our kids are not going to use it", or, "I don't have any money but I buying stuff no matter what"

Completely agree, media and technology has completely commercialized Christmas. I mean, it's always been a tradition to buy presents, but getting your four year old daughter a stuffed baby doll in the 90's is different from getting your four year old daughter an $800 iPad today, not to mention all the other crap she's probably getting as well. I think people need to slow down a second, turn off the television, and really think about what the holiday really means-spending time with your family and friends and thinking about just how blessed you were this year.

It's true. Christmas is the time to gather and celabrate. Not be happy about discounts and all that stuff.

Turn on the television, and observe what Christmas has become!

I find the consumerist axis around which modern christmas operates highly disturbing. I would be far more content receiving a handwritten letter and one or two items I truly want or need. I have tried to divert this by asking for money for charitable giving, but it doesn't deflect the uneasiness I feel watching others celebrate the gift-getting season. And deaths on black friday are totally unnaceptable.

Christmas is still a Holiday for the family. Families exchange gifts, put up a nice Christmas tree, and a wonderful dinner is held for all.
