Purely because the definition was probably constructed in an era when the majority of the population where religious, therefore most of the fanatics ended up being religious.

You are correct in that sense, but many atheists (over here in Europe escpecially) see religion as a force that needs to be removed (violently if neccessary). Hence, in history we get the Soviet persecution of Christians and the Nazi persecution of Christians.

As I've said previously, I will rarely commit to debating religion. Due to the fact that after a while debating athiests I inevitably get blind, arrogant statements

such as "Atheism just follows Science and logic. You know; the real stuff.".

So please stop assuming that you've 'won' the debate. I've just grown tired of atheists being obnoxious.
