Should the RAF be disbanded?
In light of the financial crisis, the issue has been raised that the role of the RAF is defunct. Its origional role was to protect UK airfields, however such a role is no longer required.
Therefore, the RAF takes on other jobs which are allready 'covered', if you will, by the navy and army. Its disnanding, some say, would save millions. Personel and aircraft can be transfered into the other services, perhaps in a way like that WRAC was dissolved into the regular army.
On the flip side, we stand to lose a great deal of tradition by axing a force, and it is possible that not ALL RAF personel would be able to be accomodated in the new system.
For the purposes of this debate, ignore the significant lack of FAA jets.
