There are more efficient means of transportation which will replace it as we improve their cost and such. For example, I would never drive if I had a subway entrance near my house, my school, The area with most of the shops in my town, my work and a couple friends houses. Side: Possibly/yes
A car gives you much more freedom than a subway... and less chances of being robbed, getting uncomfortably mixed with a ton of people, sitting on other peoples sweat. A subway doesn't take you everywhere you want either. Not do buses, nor do trains, or planes. Plus, driving a car can be a relaxing pleasure. Side: No/Never

Subways can be designed so there is little chance of being robbed. Subways can be designed to handle large volumes of people comfortably. Subways seats can be designed with a material similar to under-armor which quickly evaporates sweat. A subway, or another form of travel can take me to a close enough proximity to any area that a other form of motorized travel is unnecessary. It can also do such much faster, making my net travel time shorter. It could take advantages of economies of scale, making traveling cheaper as well. Any form of travel can be a relaxing pleasure. Transport evolves. First there's canoes and horseback riding. Replaced by boats, trishaws, bicycles and carriages. Transforms into ships and trains and the first automobiles. Then comes airplanes, which is now undermining the usefulness of ships as a form of transport. In time, the era of cars will pass, and they will be eliminated. Side: Possibly/yes

Indeed, and that is the change that has to happen urgently. If only the oil indutrials and the factories weren't so damn powerful and interested in slowing that kind of researches so much... Oil isn't gonna last much longer, and if we don't have decent alternatives by then... there gonna be messy times... to not say worse. Side: No/Never
