Who knows more about religion?

The theist

VS.

The atheist

Side Score: 6

Either. It depends on the person. Some theists know more about religion than atheists, some atheists no more about religion than theists.

On average, it's probably the theist, due to the sheer quantity of them. Also, there may be a large amount of atheists who are apatheistic too.

I'd say that theist theologians know more about religion than atheist philosophers (or atheist theologians).

However, I feel that I know more about religion than most theists. But if I ever debated a theologian, I'd have to avoid argument based on reference since they're going to know their shit.

Side: The theist

I will opine that a theist knows more about Religion because he or she embraces it.

Well apparently the recent studies have shown atheists tend to know more about religion (in general and variety) than theists do.

My stance, it depends on the person. If they are willing to go out and research the different theologies and retain that information.

According to the studies, atheists seem to be the ones who do that more often than their theist counterparts.

The theist is not a theist due to knowledge about their religion, but due to faith in it. AKA, a theist is a theist due to social norms and dynamics for the great majority of them. An atheist often used to be a theist, or was raised as one and found the norms, dynamics, and especially the knowledge they gained from theists to be inadequate to support being one. In general, you will find atheists to know far more about not only the dominate religion of their culture, but other religions as well. This occurs in part due to how an atheist is continually under some type of interrogation or attempts at conversion. It isn't untypical for an atheists family to believe they are in grave danger, and to put a lot of pressure on them to convert. To counter the pleas of family and the larger society, an atheist often times find themselves far more knowledgeable than the average theist.

Yeah, that was my general opinion of it. In modern societies, religion is the majority, so simply saying you're religious is enough. But, if you say you're an atheist, and people will ask you why, what about this, how do you feel about this. All these questions just push you to find answers, to educate yourself, and to rationalize your own beliefs. I know that's whats happened to me, if I wasn't pulled away from atheism, I wouldn't be quite so entrenched as I am now.

WHAT IS ESSENTIAL THEY REGARD AS ESSENTIAL, WHAT IS UNESSENTIAL THEY REGARD AS UNESSENTIAL, THEY WHO ENTERTAIN (SUCH) RIGHT THOUGHTS REALIZE THE ESSENCE.
