I think that gum chewing should be allowed in school. Yes, I know that it is gross to put your hand under your desk (for whatever reason) and stick your fingers into some dried-on gum. However, this doesn't happen all the time. Instructors should simply be more strict with the rules concerning gum chewing. Instructors should check under desks (the most common place for gum) for stuck-on gum, and hunt down whoever they think did it. Other points FOR: 1) It is healthy for students' jaws. 2) It will NOT retard a student's ability to concentrate. Chewing gum really doesn't require much brain activity. Or does it? Please correct me if this is not so. Side: yes

Gum At School? By: Mina Yazadzhiev, Cassidy Quinn, Eddie Lopez, and Logan Belcher Have you ever been in school, doing a test, wishing you had something to fidget with? Well, an example is gum. But, having gum in school is not allowed. So, what can you fidget with? The answer is absolutely nothing. That is, if you want to spend more than $100 on a fidget toy. Why is gum good for you? Gum has xylitol in it and that’s really good for your teeth. Gum can also make your jaw stronger. It is approved by doctors that gum is good for you. Also, if you have a stinky snack like garlic, you could chew some gum. Or, maybe you forgot to brush your teeth, gum can help your breath smell better. And if your breath smells bad, people might say that your breath smells bad, and when someone says that to you, it will be offensive, and you will feel bad. Gum can also help you concentrate. Gum is really good for studying. It helps people learn more. Gum can actually help students on their test Sometimes, teachers give gum to their students while taking a really, really, hard test. We wish that our school used that system. Many students are thinking about things other than the lesson, they are not learning the lesson. But if those students have gum, the gum can help them to concentrate and then they will learn the lesson. Gum is good for your studying, and good for concentrating. Gum can help your breath smell better. Like, if you eat something smelly, such as garlic. In Conclusion, gum should be allowed at school, because it, helps your breath smell better, if you eat something stinky, it helps a lot of students concentrate, gum helps make your jaw stronger, and gum has something in it called xylitol. Gum should be at school because of those things. Side: yes

i think that schools shouldn't let kids have gum because, think about how unhealthy gum is, and the janitors going to have a hard time cleaning the desks so theres no gum under them, and i dont think anyone would even bring gum to chew, and so what if it cleans your teeth, there's nothing wrong with brushing them, plus it's destracting in school think about hearing all this chewing noises and all the clickity clackity from the gum sticking to your teeth, IT'S DISGUSTING!!!!! Side: No
gum is actually very healthy for you. It helps and supports your oral health, manages your weight, and relieves stress. It also helps students in school. Test have shown from Northumbria University that students that chewed gum during tests have done 26%-36% better. And the janitor wouldn't have to be cleaning under the desks because if students knew that they were allowed to chew gum in school with out getting in trouble. That means they would dispose of it properly instead of being scared of getting caught and sticking it under their desks. So gum is good! DONT BE DUMB CHEW GUM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Side: yes

ACTUALLLY ,Chewing gum in class should be allowed because its help you focus better because when I’m chewing gum it keeps me awake. And it also helps people who can’t afford tooth brush and tooth paste because gum has a delightful scent and helps people with nasty breath! But you could get distracted because if I was to pop a big huge loud bubble and distract the whole class. Chewing sugarless gum during class and while doing homework may improve academic performance of adolescents, a new study says. Gum chewing was associated with a 3% increase in standardized math scores, which Johnston terms small but still “statistically significant.” The youngsters who chewed also had final math grades that were “significantly better” than those who didn’t chew, Johnston says.
