Cussing
I cuss to express myself, not at school or even towards my parents, but when I'm emotional I do use and occasional "fuck", "shit", and "god damn it".
I don't see a problem, they're just words. And you can be more insulting to someone without them if you know enough.
I don't think cussing should be made into something crude.

I am not against cussing, but it does indicate a lacking vocabulary. Finding other words to replace curse words displays an extensive and more intellectual/matured vocabulary. One curse word I often feel compelled to use is 'f*ck' and so instead of replacing it with a non-cuss I replace it with 'fook'. Like it? ;) Side: They're just words
I worked in a 5* hotel here in my area for almost three years. I was the porter there, and being the porter in that hotel meant you'd have to fill all the gaps. So, since there was no driver at that time (5 stars at it's best...), we, the porters had to drive the guests to and from the club house and the restaurants. Once, I was driving a group of people back to the hotel, can't recall from where they were, and I forgot that my colleague had been listening to a Limp Biskit CD during the vacant time while he was cleaning the van. Suddently everyone was laughing at the song they were singing and asking me to put it louder. This was the song. Side: They're just words

They are just words, but they are rude when used in the presence of people who find them offensive. If you're around people who don't mind hearing them, it's not a problem. But for some people, it is offensive, in which case, it would be inappropriate to use them (if you care about being polite that is). It is also considered ungentlemanly to use them in front of women and children. Side: They're rude
I think that's her point, tho. Why should anyone find them offensive? Like she sais in the description, a person can easily be more offensive by being politely objective than by being rudely insubstantial. I really believe that these words are offensive and disrespectfull only because that's how we are taught since we begin to talk. Just like any taboo. We know that if we say these words mom is gonna be mad and dad may even slap us. But then between friends you can say whatever you want and you can insult them and in the end no one is taking it seriously, because that's just words... About gentlemanliness, well, that's for another debate, I guess. But, unless you associate a benevolent spontaneous action to gentlemanliness, rather than to a premeditated action that follows a conventional gentlemanly rule, I see it as yet another pompous ideology useful only to distract humans with futile details... such as words. Life is too short for that... Side: They're just words

I see your point. My reason for believing that they are offensive is because they were originally designed to be that way. Calling someone a motherfucker for example is intended to be offensive because it insinuates that they fornicate with their own mother. In most societies, that is rude, and it is intended to be rude. If someone happens to enjoy fornicating with their own mother and are not ashamed of it, or if the word means something different to them, such a term may not be offensive at all. But my point is that they are seen as offensive because they were originally created to be offensive, and it's impossible to judge how someone will interpret your profanity, whether you are ill meaning or not.
