Weather in this story seems to be the monster's fuel. Every emotion or situation he encounters deals with the weather. The monster becomes "restored to some degree of tranquility" when "the pleasant sunshine" is upon him. All of his sufferings seem to dissipate when he describes the weather and in this it acts on his feelings in a positive way. The "sun shone on the red leaves" the day that the monster felt the urgency to express his secretly devoted feelings to the DeLacey's. Then when he is on his travels he endures "rain and snow" and feels "[cursed] on the cause of [his being]." While on his travels "the day...was one of the first of spring" had "cheered" for its loveliness. On this day he encountered the girl which resulted with a "ball through [his] shoulder. So we can see how the weather can be cheerful but how it correlates to the monster and the depressing situations he emerges to.

Victor has progressed in his thinking process. Instead of going into the situation hands on he utilizes his brain and formulates scenarios that would become a possible problem. His procrastination is a better, different side of Victor that is unveiled because he learned from his previous creation that composing this monster may result in another destructive position. This also shows that Victor is skeptical in the monster in that he questions whether he will abide by his end of the deal and not return to Europe. In these we can clarify that Victor procrastinates for all the right reasons.

The intentions of Victor and this new "contract" he made with the monster is to me selfish in both of them. The monster is selfish in that he wants Victor to create this species like himself for his own use of companionship. He does not think that maybe she might be different and not feel the way that he does about humans. The monster is self obsessed with having his own love and is willing to risk endangerment on himself for it. Victor is selfish in that he does this to send him away. He cannot bring himself to rid this monster because he has formulated a connection with him. Two years of his health and wellness were spent on this creation and he selfishly cannot deny him a companion because of his painful obsession.

It is not solely that Frankenstein lacks the ability to make a decision it is that all of his decisions result in despair following major consequences. His character is to not think but do. Victor is very impulsive in his decisions and has exemplified that through his thought process, or lack there of, of the creation of not only his first monster but of his next. He is childish in the way he perceives situations and has ended up with life threatening results. If he does not take responsibility it will result in his own destruction.

Gothic literature has a reoccurring theme of bad marriages. From "The Castle of Otranto" with Hippolita and Manfred and their impending downfall through divorce. Then we see this with Alymer and Georgianna and the perfection that brings them together is their ultimate destruction. These ruined marriages not only show the metonymy and gloom of Gothic literature but also exemplifies how the marriage creates an atmosphere of inexplicable and highly suspenseful situations that creates theses stories.

Women back in that time period were seen merely as physical beings nothing deeper. That stands true in all of the Gothic literature from "The Castle of Otranto to "Frankenstein". The ideal image of a woman was based upon not her intelligence or contribution to society but how well she physically appeared and how devoted and submissive she was to the male figure.

I agree that Georgianna was undoubtedly in love with Alymer but that his true intentions were strictly self serving. Yes companionship is natural to crave but in this story Alymer's companionship was his experiments. In the beginning of the story, "The Birthmark", it tells us that he is this amazing scientist who has put a hold on his perfect career to marry this perfect girl. My intake on this was that it was all work for him. His motives were to be perfect and in order to be perfect he needed to surround himself with perfection. Then when he realized that she was not perfect he had a dream in which he killed her to remove the blemish from her face and was okay with her dying, relived really. This shows that his companionship was not to Georgianna but to perfection.

It is very true how women were seen through there appearance than personality. Any reference to a woman in these Gothic literatures are purely based upon physical aspects. How in the Castle of Otranto Hippolita had still devoted her self to a husband who intended on divorcing her strictly because she could not physically produce a male due to her physical health. In The Birthmark Georgianna is described as this perfect woman except for a simple birthmark of a hand print on her face. Her husband creates a commotion about it which then diminishes her self esteem and yet she submits herself to his experiments to make her "perfect". Not only does it show how females were based upon purely by looks but that there personalities were there physical appearance.

In the Gothic literature there are many constant devises that are kept within the text such as in the Ancient Mariner and the Birthmark. Both of the female characters are held with the power to determine the fate of the males in the story. The life and death in the Ancient Mariner is obviously the determinant of what happens in the story and in the fall of Usher when Elizabeth's life and death is the fend of her brothers. There is also a reoccurring theme of a woman in distress with an over powering tyrannical male. In the Castle of Otranto Isabelle is in hiding in order to not to marry Manfred and his bad temper. The same follows in The Birthmark when Georgeanna is put in a state of submission to her husband and his tyrannical personality and risked her life doing so. Another Gothic device that is repeated in the these Gothic stories is the use of foreshadow. The Castle of Otranto puts the use of this mysterious giant that can only be seen by some. With this use of mystery it can foretell future inexplicable events. The Ancient Mariner also uses foreshadow through the killing of the Albatross. This Albatross was a sign of good intentions and when the Mariner killed it it foreshadowed that future events would lead to a threatening atmosphere. Then in the Birthmark when the scientist becomes irritably obsessed with the mark on his wife's face we can elude to a situation involving metonymy. Foreshadowing also relates to The Fall of the House of the Usher in that the house with its "cracks" and " rotting smell" could follow to an unknown, mysterious occurrence.

Though having trial by jury is a fair process, it still contains many disadvantages. Having ordinary people partake in there civic duties doesn't mean that there aren't some that are prejudice towards the case at hand. In the movie "Twelve Angry Men" one of the jury member was blatantly calling the accused guilty based off of life threatening stereotypes. Also the fact that we are human and some people might have the tendency to associate there personal problem into someone else's verdict as depicted in "Twelve Angry Men" is also a clear disadvantage to the accused. The disadvantages are apparent and do occur in the court legal system today.

The obvious advantages of having a trial by jury is that they with hold the decision of deciding guilty or not guilty of the accuser. It gives the ability to try the accused case with a new set of eyes. They can only judge the person on what has been presented in court and so from the constitution it would be considered a fair trial. So it definitely has its advantages in the fact that it can assist in the biggest decision of someones life through having ordinary people like you and me use the materials presented and come up with a justified reason.

I agree for stronger laws would help keep control of weapons and the people to whom withhold them. It is very important that the undercover sellers are caught and laws to enforce such an issue could assist to that.

Though I understand your argument I would have to repectfully disagree. A criminal is a criminal wether or not the victim is with weapon or not. Take the shooting in fort hood for example. The man intentionally shot off his gun and had knowledge that on a military post, there are weapons especially when going out to deploy. So although victims may have a better chance of defense, it does not guarantee that a criminal would back down and that would definitly not create peace but more violence.

Though gun control doesn't verify the end of gun violence we can try and lower the deaths of our fellow citizens by enforcing laws to restict the age and the number at which you are allowed to buy guns. Order and restrictions are important if we want to reduce and overcome the many deaths caused through gun rights.

I believe that there should be gun control for the numbers of deaths through control is high enough and is rising with out it. Though guns are of course lethal it is the person whom holds that gun which makes it dangerous.
