I want to qualify this point. There is a fundamental difference between softcore erotica and hardcore pornography. If a daughter of mine wanted to be photographed in a tasteful nude I would have no problem with that. After all, our museums and art galleries are full of naked representations of the human body. An aesthetic nude can raise the self-esteem of a girl. It is a statement of her own sexuality and confidence in her physical attractiveness. But pornography is different. Pornography is not based on any aesthetic. It removes the personality to an animal level and ultimately degrades the individual. True, that a girl of sixteen can marry and have sex, but that is in a consensual relationship based on (we hope) love (albeit romantic love), not an exploitative one (ie. for money). A sixteen year old girl is psychologically fragile and the porn industry is so merciless it would crush the life out of her. Ever wondered why the faces of porn models are so hard? Because it's a hard business and the average person has no idea what it is really like. A pornstar makes a career choice to enter the industry; it is not an idealistic decision. So my argument is that the decision is ultimately an aesthetic one. Softcore erotic photography should be allowed at 16 but hardcore potnography should definitely not.
