So are you going to add another picture from your past each week? That's so cool. I really wish CD had a function like facebook where it shows all of your past profile pictures. =/

I tend to rebel against any commercialized and completely superficial event (one day makes 0 difference, and the whole thing is pandering and self-absolving sort of generic penance)

But as it's a legitimately good cause, I'm going to not rebel, and just go about my day.

An Earth day by no stretch of the imagination even begins to slightly ablsolve any problems though. We need to initiate real green energy, get homes off the grid, and make vehicles tha run on renewable resources.

We do have the technology to do all this, and parading around like forest creatures straight out of lagoon does not make up for our negligence thus far.

I walked down Fifth Avenue that day...the first Earth Day March. What was astounding were the amount of people who marched along and down the Avenue by my side and I at theirs. Approximately 20 Million Americans marched all over the states on that one day, April 22, 1970!

We knew what was wrong and we were going to fix it. We'd plant trees anywhere and every where to make up for the loss of cutting swaths of trees down and not replacing them. We were going to be kind to the Earth that supported our lives and not let it down. Boy were we green and I mean GREEN! We bought posters and the proceeds would go to improve the landscape of America with plant life. We thought this would be a piece of cake.

Then came the ozone layer, climate control and global warming. We thought we lost, but we didn't. If nothing else we planted the seeds of a movement that lives on today with today's renewed zest. We shall never lose.

Earth day has honestly never meant anything to me. I have only worn green to school on a couple of occasions just because I'd get extra credit for choice classes. It would be great if everyone just drove hybrids and walked, rode bikes, or roller bladed etc etc as much as possible but this is not going to happen anytime soon.

I'm just waiting for a hover car that uses hydrogen =]

I would buy the hover car. Not because its good for the planet, but because I freaking want a hover car!

See I don't make a point to drive anything, just whatever I want.
