Premise 1: The definition of religion is "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe." Premise 2: All atheists have decided upon a different cause, nature, and purpose of the universe then theists have, although this may vary between atheists just as it may vary between theists. Conclusion: Thus, atheism is in fact a religion. NOTE: This is not my actual belief. I personally think atheism is not a religion, but I thought I would just make an argument on this side, as no one else has, yet. 292 days ago | Side: Yes
"Premise 1: The definition of religion is 'a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe.'" Under this definition, I think it would be safe to consider virtually everyone religious. So yeah, I guess you could consider atheism religious under this context. But, that's not really what people mean when discussing a particular religion, is it? I would use an alternate definition: "A specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects(i.e. the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion)." From this I would conclude that theism is not a religion, but could be a basis for a religion. Likewise, atheism is not a religion, but could be a basis for a religion (I would consider Naturalism a religion, for which atheism could be a basis.) 292 days ago | Side: No

Atheism has no doctrine, dogma, scriptures, holy men, deity, worship, adherence, ignorance of facts, rituals, sacrifices, and there is nothing that necessarily connects two separate atheists outside of their disbelief in one more God than the purported theists. 293 days ago | Side: No
A religion is a belief of something beyond our imagination. Atheists don't have this. They only believe what they have sense able contacts with (except for feeling - apparently that is a pointless, needless and powerless gift the human being is given, according to atheists) 292 days ago | Side: No
