Should Canada have a Monarch or a President?
Since Canada’s formation on 1 July 1867, the Monarch of the United Kingdom has also served as our Monarch. Many people think we should get rid of the Monarch and become a Republic, that way the people can choice their head of state, and that person can be a Canadian, someone to represent our multicultural nation. Others believe that we need to retain that last piece of colonialism, something that many consider to be holding us back from taking our final step to complete independence.

To be honest I dont think it would make any difference, at the moment Canada is technically ruled by the British Queen but she has nothing to do with the day to day running of the country thats the Canadian Prime Ministers job, so if you get rid of the Queen the Prime Minister is then called the President not much will change, in the great words of The Who say hello to the new boss same as the old boss Side: Monarch

The Monarch as head of state is primarily symbolical. Not only does it highlight Canada's history but it makes them part of the group of those nations which have the British Monarchy as Head of State. I cannot see why anyone would want an elected President when you already have an elected Prime Minister. Side: Monarch
