The government should regulate marriage because if it is strictly up to churches then many people of different faiths or no faith will be denied marriage in well over half of the churches. Even though I am a christian I don't believe all churches have really learn the lesson "All men are created equal." Side: gov't should regulate marriage
Most governments are religious or have aspects of religion in them if we let religion rule a country isn't going to work because no one can totally agree. right now most state governments aren't allowing homosexual marriage because they think it's a sin in the bible. government should have nothing to do with marriage, it's an obsolete institution that's only real purpose is to "bring two together under god". there are some benefits i guess the government should provide for people who want to be together forever, but it shouldn't depend on marriage, it should done through a completely legal stand point... so there is no sense of discrimination. Civil Unions for short. Side: marriage should be religious
I think that the government not having a say in who can or can't get married might decrease some of the tension in the gay marriage debate. Then individual denominations of religious institutions could decide whether they wanted to perform gay marriages or not. Side: marriage should be religious
The word "marriage" should remain in the religious organization. Should anyone want a union with another, they can call it anything they want except marriage. Call it a union, or anyother word other than marriage. I don't want government, judges or any other government entity getting into religious excersizes. Side: marriage should be religious
