two examples of abrahamic gods great evils (Description please)

If you refuse to listen to the LORD your God and to obey the commands and laws he has given you, all these curses will pursue and overtake you until you are destroyed.  These horrors will serve as a sign and warning among you and your descendants forever.  Because you have not served the LORD your God with joy and enthusiasm for the abundant benefits you have received, you will serve your enemies whom the LORD will send against you.  You will be left hungry, thirsty, naked, and lacking in everything.  They will oppress you harshly until you are destroyed.  "The LORD will bring a distant nation against you from the end of the earth, and it will swoop down on you like an eagle.  It is a nation whose language you do not understand, a fierce and heartless nation that shows no respect for the old and no pity for the young.  Its armies will devour your livestock and crops, and you will starve to death.  They will leave you no grain, new wine, olive oil, calves, or lambs, bringing about your destruction.  They will lay siege to your cities until all the fortified walls in your land – the walls you trusted to protect you – are knocked down.  They will attack all the towns in the land the LORD your God has given you.  The siege will be so severe that you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you.  The most tenderhearted man among you will have no compassion for his own brother, his beloved wife, and his surviving children.  He will refuse to give them a share of the flesh he is devouring – the flesh of one of his own children – because he has nothing else to eat during the siege that your enemy will inflict on all your towns.  The most tender and delicate woman among you – so delicate she would not so much as touch her feet to the ground – will be cruel to the husband she loves and to her own son or daughter.  She will hide from them the afterbirth and the new baby she has borne, so that she herself can secretly eat them.  She will have nothing else to eat during the siege and terrible distress that your enemy will inflict on all your towns.   (Deuteronomy 28:45-57 NLT)

"If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father.  Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her."   Deuteronomy 22:28-29

"God is the ultimate source of morality and commands only good"...................................................................NOW GO EAT A BABY!

1) He is not advocating the eating of babies; He is saying that because they do not obey His commands, they will do this because they will be left desolate and alone.

2) In that time if a woman was raped no man would take her as his wife. Women were dependent upon their husbands during this time as well; so if a woman was raped and not taken as a wife, then she would most certainly die. If anything, this was a blessing for the woman.

WHAT.

You are fucking INSANE.

The LORD FOR SURE just said that you should eat babies, and YOU DID TOO.

Not "for fun", but he certainly never said "Don't eat babies."

Instead he simply said when you would eat babies.

And you think women were dependent on their husbands? That's bullshit sexism and NOTHING more.

You are insane and dangerous.

Being raped is not a blessing you sick fuck.

1) The Lord is against murder, which can be seen throughout the Bible. Eating your baby is murder. Therefore, the Lord is against it. He is saying that because these people are evil, which they are, then God will leave them and send an opposing nation against them. When the other nation takes them over, they will be desolate and alone and because of their evil they will eat their babies because of their own selfishness. I nor the Lord am for the eating of babies.

2) Rape is horrible. However, during the time women were dependent mainly upon their husbands. How is that sexism? Thats history and the Lord is clearly trying to take care of the women who have been raped through marriage to the rapist, who has to pay a fine for what he did and then also have her as his wife. She will most likely over time end up forgiving him, which is a fundamental tenant of Christianity, marriage is a symbol of Christ and His church. Because we are evil in God's sight, just as a rapist is to the women, she will over forgive him just as Christ forgives us. So reconciliation and life come about through the marriage of a rapist and his victim in that time period.

(I rarely find myself siding with lolzors, but I felt I had to dispute a few points for him, here)

And you think women were dependent on their husbands? That's bullshit sexism and NOTHING more.

Nowadays that's bullshit sexism, but that's a pretty accurate description of the gender situation in the ancient Middle East. Hell, women didn't even get full rights in most countries till the 1900s... how do you think their situation was 2000+ years ago? Don't get me wrong, it's an ignorant, misogynistic, bullshit, sexist kind of mentality that kept women in the dark for all those hundreds of years, but that doesn't mean that it didn't happen. Women we're largely dependent on men because they were oftentimes not allowed simple freedoms like being able to own property or conduct business.

Being raped is not a blessing you sick fuck.

Lolzors worded his point poorly, and it's a sick kind of culture where it was helpful for a woman to marry her rapist, but hey, ancient Palestine was a sick kind of place. The culture was obsessed with maintaining a girls virginity (the residual effects of this obsession still felt today) so no man would be eager to marry a rape victim. Forcing the rapist to marry and thus care for this girl who would otherwise have a difficult time finding employment, shelter, and food it a penalty to the rapist and a benefit to the victim. It's like a barbaric form of alimony.

Needless to say, lolzors was not trying to say rape is a blessing.

(Judges 21:10-24 NLT)

So they sent twelve thousand warriors to Jabesh-gilead with orders to kill everyone there, including women and children. "This is what you are to do," they said. "Completely destroy all the males and every woman who is not a virgin." Among the residents of Jabesh-gilead they found four hundred young virgins who had never slept with a man, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh in the land of Canaan.

The Israelite assembly sent a peace delegation to the little remnant of Benjamin who were living at the rock of Rimmon. Then the men of Benjamin returned to their homes, and the four hundred women of Jabesh-gilead who were spared were given to them as wives. But there were not enough women for all of them. The people felt sorry for Benjamin because the LORD had left this gap in the tribes of Israel. So the Israelite leaders asked, "How can we find wives for the few who remain, since all the women of the tribe of Benjamin are dead? There must be heirs for the survivors so that an entire tribe of Israel will not be lost forever. But we cannot give them our own daughters in marriage because we have sworn with a solemn oath that anyone who does this will fall under God's curse."

Then they thought of the annual festival of the LORD held in Shiloh, between Lebonah and Bethel, along the east side of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem. They told the men of Benjamin who still needed wives, "Go and hide in the vineyards. When the women of Shiloh come out for their dances, rush out from the vineyards, and each of you can take one of them home to be your wife! And when their fathers and brothers come to us in protest, we will tell them, 'Please be understanding. Let them have your daughters, for we didn't find enough wives for them when we destroyed Jabesh-gilead. And you are not guilty of breaking the vow since you did not give your daughters in marriage to them.'" So the men of Benjamin did as they were told. They kidnapped the women who took part in the celebration and carried them off to the land of their own inheritance. Then they rebuilt their towns and lived in them. So the assembly of Israel departed by tribes and families, and they returned to their own homes.

rape

(Numbers 31:7-18 NLT)

They attacked Midian just as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed all the men. All five of the Midianite kings – Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba – died in the battle. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. Then the Israelite army captured the Midianite women and children and seized their cattle and flocks and all their wealth as plunder. They burned all the towns and villages where the Midianites had lived. After they had gathered the plunder and captives, both people and animals, they brought them all to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the whole community of Israel, which was camped on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan River, across from Jericho.

Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the people went to meet them outside the camp. But Moses was furious with all the military commanders who had returned from the battle. "Why have you let all the women live?" he demanded. "These are the very ones who followed Balaam's advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD's people. Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves.

God approved rape

(Deuteronomy 20:10-14)

As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.

How was there rape in Judges? They took to themselves wives.... there is nothing wrong with getting married is there? The fathers of the wives do not approve of it but is if a father doesn't like a girl having sex in today's world does that mean he is guilty of rape?

Numbers is the same. Simply because there are young women whom the officers keep after the spoils of war does not mean that they raped them. The women could easily give consent.

Deuteronomy could mean rape but it includes the taking of many others different from women including children and livestock. However, even if you wanted to say that they did take them as their wives it does not say that they have been given power to rape them.

None of these Bible verses condone rape. The Bible as a whole does not condone rape. I hope this helps you and may God ever bless you!

Sorry but all I saw was a large wall of text quoting the Bible. I'm not even sure what the argument IS. Yes I read the things previously posted but again, not sure what the core issue here is, exactly.

...Perhaps less quoting and more... I dunno, actual writing?... would be helpful.

No. You have to do your own talking. That's why it's a debate. Use it as a source if you must, but compose your own argument other than "WTF" and "LOL EAT A BABY". If you don't construct your own argument, then all you are doing is quoting, with no real purpose or goal.

So, tl;dr version: Prove your own claim. With your own words.

Killing every first born in egypt.

Commanding the sacking of cities, the rapes of women and murders of men

Condoning slavery

Flooding the earth

Sending people to an eternal inferno to be tortured until the end of time.

The list goes on.

I would have put more but 5000 character limit :P .

In each of those (except the slavery thing, I don't know where you get that from), I am fairly certain God gave them multiple occasions to turn away from their sins. At the very least I know the firstborn incident and the flood, as well as 'an eternal inferno' are situations that God gave/gives many chances to escape from.

So which list are we talking here, exactly? Because all I see is nit-picking.

Did you seriously just make excusses for millions of murders? (not that i believe any of it happened but still). And the slavery thing is how god condones and promotes slavery. A "loving" god should not kill people for tiny little things. Its not like he ever comes down and says to them directly "yo knock it off".
