Homework is great if it is clearly targeted to suit the individual's needs. For example, for many, homework should serve as revision or basic preparation for/of key learning. Using whole brain learning ideals, repeating and regularly using concepts builds deep learning. For some, homework is to support remediation. That is, for any number of reasons a person may require additional time or scaffolding to support base knowledge and learning. Doing some furthr work to reinforce classroom learning can be a reasonable option. Particularly if it engages willing parents or responsible others to assist. After all, learning should not be the domain of institutions - for it to have real integrity, it should be ongoing and everywhere. Finally, and equally importantly, homework provides an opportunity for those seeking advanced knowledge and understanding to extend themselves. Why should individuals be held back to recieve instructions at the same rate as the majority if they are capable and motivate to proceed at a different rate to the majority? This is not always about the brightest seeking extension and stimulation but also the most determined.
