I have to disagree to your above argument.

No doubt that the level of confidentiality is set by the user, however, most of the times, people do not know that the default settings of most social networking site is on "available to the public" which means, that even people we do not know, can see the personal information we wrote. Being that unaware of the default settings, creators of the profile will not bother to change the settings. Identity fraud in this case, is whereby people with awful motives, stalk a particular person on the site and records down all the information stated. The person will then be able to create new profile with all the personal information such as the name, address, workplace, relationship status and birthday. With all the information, it will ease identity fraud when a person attempts to claim as the real owner of the identity. With a profile of another person, "fake" owners will be able to sabotage the real owner of the profile. Whether it is through cyber bullying or even a minor thing like commenting on a photo.

Although sites like Facebook do have age requirements (In which in this case is the age of 13), minors tend to fake an age just to be able to sign up into the social networking site. Facebook, have games that children love: Pet Society, Restaurant City. Once they find out from their older sibling or an adult that there is such a website that have such games, most of the time they will want to create their own profile and start playing the games. Meanwhile, being unaware of the dangers and consequences of not being mature enough to handle their own online profile. This hence does not discourage children to join the social platform.

In conclusion, your rebuttal is not strongly reinforced and I still stand with technology is a bane to the society.

I agree that even though the invention of technology is of great use to mankind, there are indeed many cons to this too. I feel that technology is more of a bane to the society.

Eversince the creation of technology, in this case, the social media and internet,

many people have been facing all sorts of different problems. I will be talking more about the different negative impacts of social networking sites.

A social networking site can be defined as an online platform or site, that focuses on building or reflecting of social relations among people. It is also the use of websites or other online technologies to communicate with people and share information and resources with the use of online profiling. Social networking sites such as Facebook and twitter vary slightly, however, one common feature is that these social networking sites have a platform where they allow users to create online profiles. This feature allows people to create an online profile to represent themselves in that particular social platform. By creating this profile, users will be able to communicate with another user through direct messages, commenting, posting a status or emailing. The creation of a social networking site can bring together many users as they join this platform varied reasons. Today, there are more than 500 million active users on Facebook and users spend over 700 billion minutes per month on this social networking site (Facebook, 2011 statistics).

I will be arguing that social networking site will have a larger negative influence on users, with the increased ease of identity theft and also the drecease in workplace productivity.

Identity theft pose as a huge problem in today's society and comes about after the creation of the very modern, social media. The availability of internet technology then comes about. In fact, "A total of 806,000 Australians aged 15 years and over were victims of at least on incident of personal fraud in identity theft in 2008" (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2008). Sites such as Facebook and Myspace, they encourage users to "edit your profile" which includes: personal details like phone number, address, relationship status and even our own personal interest. The availability of this information to the public will then ease the identity theft.
