Dang it, you called me out for being a white bigot! How did you know? ; )
(Starter) A prison at its basic definition is a place for rehabilitation. Are we doing that now? No, we are not. It's bad enough that we strip these people of their most basic natural rights, but to punish and torture them on top of that is inhuman and only makes them hate society and the law even more furthering criminal activity. Take a look at the Zimbardo Prison Experiment where fake gaurds went power hungry due to their power over others and abussed the fake prisoners. It got so bad that the experiment got cancaled after 6 days when it was supposed to last 2 weeks. We need to turn prisons into centers of help not centers of punishment.
(Starter) The people that go to prisons committed horrible crimes and most likely will commit them again even if we try to help them. So why bother? We should make them atone for their sins to society and punish them as hard as we can by taking away their rights and making them work to pay back society. Feeling pity for a criminal is just supporting more crimes we have to teach them through force and fear as calm reasoning has been shown and proven to fail.
I'm guessing that the video is just there to get people thinking as it is obviously a comedy act. In regards to 'How Not to Be Racist' I would say that's it's pretty much impossible not to be racist. Now before you go slamming your keyboard saying how wrong I am, hear me out. People can do the things mentioned in the video, they can respect people's heritages and their ethnicity. Heck I call all my my 'black' friends African American. However, there's one factor of racism that cannot be stopped: Subconscious Racism. Our subconscious minds process information all the time and that information comes out whether we like it or not. This Subconscious Racism manifests itself most often as in-group and out-group bias. Take a look at psychologist Piliavin's Subway Study in which they had people wearing the same clothes and preforming the same actions fall down with the only difference being the person's race. People who were of the same race as the person who fell would be more inclined to help them. They never thought to themselves "Oh a [insert race] I don't wanna touch them they [insert racist remark]."
Plain and simply, you can try as hard as you want to not be racist but subconsciously you will be and there's nothing you can do to fix that. It's just something hardwired into our brains from generations ago.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
