Sufficient and relevant examples of the current measures taken to solve inequality

Transforming a Third World slum into a successful modern city has created an elite class in Singapore. More clearly than any other social institution, the school system stresses on merit, competition, technology, and bench-marking against international standards. It has incalculably place in the young generation the mindset that only the best will survive in this race to the top of the social ladder. As such, Singaporeans today no longer care for these less educated hardy, preferring graduate employees Unless you have a degree, you will not survive in the world today. But the pendulum may have swung too far.The average incomes of the top 20 per cent of households rose by 53 per cent – from $12,091 to $18,472 – from 1997 to 2007. By comparison, the average incomes of the poorest 20 per cent of households were kept down as a result of globalisation, competition from emerging economies and new technology. It is no question that only those who belong to the upper income group have the affluence and influence to reap the easy life in Singapore.
