If sex is just for reproduction then why are there so many advantages to doing it?
I have had COUNTLESS amount of people tell me that having sex for pleasure is wrong because it's meant to be for reproduction. And any other use it just wrong, or other words I've been told "sinful", "disugusting", "slutty", and many more.
But think about what sex can do for you. It's supposed to be good for the mind and body, it puts people in a good mood, it relaxes you after, and many other things. If it were only meant for reproduction then why is so useful and other ways?
Well, I don't believe that it should just be for reproducing, but since you're asking "why are there so many advantages" I feel that I must point out that those advantages are meant to get us to reproduce.
Sex feels good and makes our lives better because the purpose of the life cycle is to create more life. If sex didn't have many advantages, that would be a pretty flawed design for reproduction, causing us to possibly not exist as long.
Reproduction is necessary for the survival and evolution of a species. Considering that it's the most important thing besides survival of the individual, sex has to desired.
If sex is only for reproduction, why do you think humans exhibit concealed ovulation, and women are receptive to sex when they're not ovulating and even if they're menstruating? When one or both parties are too old to be fertile? Sex is energy expensive and the participants are vulnerable and distracted- if we want to engage in a relatively risky activity when it has 0% chance of making a baby, and we generally do want to do so, it only makes sense that it has another purpose.
People release chemicals during sex to help them bond to their partner. It doesn't matter that this probably evolved as a strategy to help keep couples together to raise a high-maintenance baby: it's not synonymous with fertilization and it happens in the absence of babies. So, sex is not just for reproduction, it also helps couples bond. There's also data suggesting that sex relieves stress, strengthens immune systems, helps you sleep better, etc., but I'm not sure how much of that is just because it's good cardio and how much of that is specifically because it's sex.
I expected this argument to appear, and while I agree with it, there is a problem with it. Most animals don't get pleasure from sex, they do it because instinct. Why's that?
Just a thought, but humans are amongst the only known animals who do not have a mating season....since we are always on, might it not follow that we would find reasons to do it other than instinct?
Are you sure about that? It may very well be that they do, but it is in a way that we cannot comprehend. It might be very possible that most animals actually DO get pleasure from sex or reproducing.
At any rate, I don't really care to go back and forth about that, just wanted to provoke some critical thinking. An argument like this would just go round and round considering we only really know ourselves... and unfortunately sometimes some don't even know that.

I’m curious as to how that was discovered. What tests were involved etc.
Like I said an argument like this would just go round and round considering we only really know ourselves. Not saying it’s impossible; just that the results of such an experiment might be a little suspicious. We cannot know for sure if an animal is experiencing pleasure considering we cannot experience another life forms consciousness. Perhaps it’s a pleasure that our human brains have not experienced and therefore cannot comprehend as a form of pleasure.
We can study blips on a graph and reactions to stimuli, but without actually being that animal, we will not know for sure.
While that may not mean it's not pleasurable for other animals, they don't do it for pleasure, meaning it has no play in reproduction.
This would be even more difficult to prove in my opinion. If we are unable to accurately assess whether or not an animal experiences pleasure, how then are we to accurately measure whether or not that pleasure is a factor or driving force for mating.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not necessarily disputing you. I just don’t know whether or not pleasure plays a role in sex for animals, and I wouldn’t presume such a thing for the reasons I mentioned.

Even if that is true, humans have certain driving factors that lead to having sex, and one of them is the prospect of pleasure. That can be viewed as an advantage, and I would certainly agree with this view ;) but the advantage exists as a driving force to procreate. Whatever factors an animal has to lead them to sex (instinct or whatever) are still only there to lead to one thing, procreation.
Two things that I have learned about the behavior of living organisms. These things are inherent and instinctual, there are also no exceptions save for those subjects with certain mutations or biological/psychological malfunctions. All living things have an instinctual will to exist and to multiply.

Sex I think should just be for reproducing I think. Sex has its good and its bad. If you do it just to reproduce or if you want a family and have kids then its good. But if you do it nonstop and you can't live one day without having sex than its wrong. If sex takes over your life then its bad because life is not all about sex its about other things besides that.

The word "favourite" refers to "A person or thing regarded with peculiar favour, one preferred above others." This implies that when something is a favourite of yours, it gives you a certain pleasure that other persons and/or objects cannot. Thus, you consume your favourite foods to please yourself.

I know you wouldn't know because you're young and a virgin, but having sex once a day actually wouldn't take that much time, nor would it be distracting from anything else. Sex is perhaps the most important inter-organismal process. It is necessary for the propagation of a species. Thus, it is only logical (and in concordance with our knowledge of evolution) for there to be benefits (rewards if you will) for its occurrence. Obviously, the most notable such 'benefit' is sensual pleasure. This is an intentional byproduct of millennia of evolution: hormonal responses, nerve stimuli, etc.

And yes, the purpose of sex is to add genetic diversity to the population (and thus better ensure its survivability) , and to propagate that species.

All arguments that sex should only be for reproduction are ontologically reductive. Insofar as they are ontologically reductive they deminish what it means to be human, that our purpose is to solely to reproduce, this denies the subjectivity of all human experience by prioritizing the objective necessity for biological recapitulation. There is no necessary cause to do this.
Humans enjoy sex because we are supposed to enjoy sex, it is a part of what defines the human condition. Humans are preoccupied with sex for good reason, one of those reasons being progreation, others relate to health, and social dynamics. It is good to have sex and the repression or suppression of sexuality can result in many problems.
People think sex is bad because religion rationalizes the objective truth that sex is fundamental to procreation as the solely meaningful idea about it as a phenomenon of experience. Ontologically plural views understand the validity of the objective but in no way see justification in the denial of the many ways sex exists for us.
I don’t believe it should be used just for reproduction, otherwise, I’d probably still be a virgin. And I certainly don’t believe in labeling things that are natural inclinations as “sinful, disgusting, or slutty.” But I do agree with ThePyg’s point in that those other benefits to having sex are natural, subconscious or instinctual motivations that lead us to procreate... even if we just end up dry humping.
I can see this to be particularly relevant considering the amount of ignorant, ugly, or obese specimens in the population that are still somehow able to find a sexual partner. There would probably be far less of these ‘stand up examples’ of humanity reproducing if sex wasn’t as fun or didn’t feel as good as it does.
If god determines this everyone who claims sex is only for reproduction must admit water is made only for drinking, wood is made only for trees, stones are made only to sit about. Hopefully they are not hypocrites and use other things for a purpose they obviously weren't intended for, like living in a constructed home or driving around in cars that use all sort of materials in a way obviously never intended upon "creation".
Because God is not a killjoy like may people say, and he specifically designed reproduction to also give pleasure and have more advantages other than just reproducing. And there are multiple verses in the bible that say it.
When something can be done that makes people happy, healthier, and with little risk when done properly, I see few reasons to restrict its use to just reproduction.
I learned during a political course I was taking that a woman may have a round and larger than average rump because evolution has chosen that those who do, reproduce more. The answer is it is not just for reproduction. Families who know they are not going to conceive will have sex anyways.
Truthfully i think yes it is used for reproducing. But some people use it to show how much they love their spouce or for having fun. It depends on the person. I even know people who use it for a stress reliever.
Ironically , post plentiful arguments read , personally concluding ,as a strong believer of evolution ,now human being is established as almost a perfect living creature, but the joy in sex lies in theory of evolution,erstwhile ancestors of human being ,who survived just to survive his personal life ...must get something for every sort of work it does ...as reproduction process is of no exception should give something that the male does , pleasure can be the sole thing in return for the sex
