I would have to disagree with my friend terminator. He has comitted crimes, but there's a grey line in commiting crimes against criminals. I won't venture to label him, but I will say that stealing something that was stolen from you isn't the same as mugging an old lady. It's not possible to label a character like Robin Hood as simply a hooligan. I don't consider him a hero because he stole, I consider him a hero because he belonged to a faction "off the grid" and dared to defy a tyrant. However misguided (or even maleficent) his intentions were, he displayed strength and honor (towards his comrades and ideals). Since justice is relative, he could only be described as heroic if one must apply a label. I don't necessarily agree that crimes can be justified, but I will allow that were I living under the hand of a cruel dictator, who would tax and brutalize innocent people to death, I could very easily turn to the side of "anti-hero" and build a tree fort of merry men :)

It's a similar case as one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

The poor, oppressed, working class would regard him a hero.

The rich, opressors would regard him as a hooligan.

That is obviously a generalisation.

We have no proof that Robin Hood was even real. But if he was real he was definitely a hero he gave to the poor and that is proof enough that he should be considered a hero.

You have no proof you are even real mate. How about you start there.

Side: Hooligan

He's a fictional character people. He is about as real as Sherlock Holmes or Santa. (Sorry to all the child prodigies that debate a storm but still believe in Santa.)

Side: Hero

Robin Hood was a hero because he robbed from the rich and gave to the poor.

I think it's worth pointing out that Robin Hood was not a socialist, he didn't rob from the rich and give to the poor, he took the money that belonged to the people from the tax collectors and gave it back, so it seems that he was more of an anarchist than a socialist or a communist.

Side: Hero

He was a hooligan. He was a thieving murderer. Only an idiot would worship him which, I might add, included me during my childhood. Most of the people I know think of him as a hero - why? Because of some damn nuisance about thievery if done in the name of righteousness is no longer evil? Thievery, by any other name, is still thievery.

What about the Easter Bunny, is he good or evil? How about the Tooth Fairy? I have my suspicions!

There is some evidence to suggest he was a real person, but obviously most of his life has been mythologised.

I completely support this idea. In my eyes he is just a thug. I don't understand why people can worship him so much.
