Best video game genre

Which kind of games is your favorite?

In order to avoid confusion and start debating semantics, please briefly describe your favorite genre and narrow it down as much or as little as you like.

Wikipedia should have most of the genres listed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_genres) but you don't need to put your fav game in any of these, you can define or re-define as you please!

Do, however, keep it functional: for e.g. I think San Andreas is more action adventure than a shooter game since there's more exploration and adventure and you can actually use your character for much more than shoot things.

I am more of an RTS fan, though I have been doing more Turn-Based strategy games as of late. I like planning out my strategies, coping with what the enemy has and my resources.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Starcraft is the only game that has been continuously played for a decade. That shows the immense appeal of the RTS genre.

I've always liked the puzzle genre - games like Myst and the King's quest and Monkey Island series. From Zork to Sherlock Holmes recently, there's something satisfying about finally figuring out how all the pieces fit together that puzzle games offer that isn't there in the games where you just drive around and shoot people. They're more using your brain to solve problems than your brawn or quick fingers. The slower pace allows a more laid back gaming experience, and in the heyday of puzzle gaming, Lucasarts brought a lot of quirky humor to the genre before changing over to strategy games that makes replaying them enjoyable even now that their graphics look almost ancient.

MMOs by far. They give you the chance to be social or do things on your own--you have plenty of options. The worlds are immersive and have many fascinating things to discover. If you get bored with one toon or class, you just start another and voila, its a new game all over!

You know, I haven't yet caught up with any MMOs, and neither have I ever really taken up a serious RTS (unless 'Worms' qualifies)!

But titles I do find myself purchasing more often and enjoying on a regular basis are action-adventure exploration games that are usually third person shooters or beat 'em ups as well, requiring stealth and weaponry/ combat skills and a creative, immersive story line.

How is it that First Person Shooters aren't on here yet? Team Fortress Two changed my life... I no longer have one.
