Lazy is an understatement, all one has to is look around. Trash left on the table at a fast food place, litter blow across the road, lights left on, cars parked in front of a business, these are just a few signs of the time. To get one off the couch would be a major undertaking. Just look at how most people view their job. They consider work to be something one does when there is nothing better to do. It is no wonder companies hire Mexicans.

You forgot to mention the huge rise in obese Americans... another major result of American's laziness. Plus, it doesn't help this country when useless junk keeps being invented that just allows you to be lazier. Or that crappy processed food is being more and more produced and American's aren't educating themselves that they can still eat healthy on low income. I mean, no one can seriously blame the producers of processed foods, lazy inventions, and all the other junk resulting in obesity and laziness. Lots of Americans really are JUST lazy.

Its much more easy to be lazy in America because we are an industrialized country and have easy access to many things. Electricity is readily available and for the most part never out. Water is only a short walk to the kitchen and it very rarely has to be boiled for sanitation. Thanks to cars and maintained roads we don't actually walk very much in order to get things we need. Not to mention most gas stations have more food then some third world country's thanks to processing. We can only be lazy because of how far advanced we have become. Now I wonder. If japan has this problem?

People are being told that the government can take care of everything. Being taught that the rich successful people are the bad guys and should be taxed to death. People are being discouraged by the government. You can't make it, you need me I got this, so let me "remake America". What about the values of hard work? Isn't that what made us great? Aren't WE what made us great!? Yeah America just sit there in front of your TV while the messiah fixes everything for you. It's easier for the government to get bigger and bigger if we don't wake up and question them. And it's easier to keep us quiet and out of the way if we are given the choice between: "Politics" [a word people are trained to be afraid of, "oh I don't get into crazy politics"] and Intertainment.

I like how Obama said that he needed the support of the nation and that everyone is going to have to get involved in order to make the USA a better place. Pff, in this age where everything is a click away, I doubt anyone is willing to lift more than a finger to do anything besides eat or drink. I'm not saying I hate this country. I love this country. I just hate what it's become. Yeah, we're lazy. I'll admit I am too, but at least I walk to work and can manage to change the channel with gasp the buttons on the TV.

While I think the stereotypical American is lazy, I totally won't watch television if my remote is broken. I just don't like TV enough to make the effort, especially since I only watch it at night, before bed (like right now, 12.49am, watching "Juno" on HBO).

I would consider that a hasty generalization. America is also the corporate leader in the world. Go to any country and count how many McDonald's and Subways you'll find. Surely this power that American Corporations has gotten is not a result from laziness. And, we have one of the most powerful fighting forces of all time (US Navy SEALS). That can't be from laziness either, right? If you're talking about the common man, we're probably just as lazy as anyone else. But in Western Europe, they have way more vacation days and WEEKS than Americans do. Americans, if anything, are the workaholics of the Western world. The only people that make US look lazy are Asians (Japan, Korea, China, etc.). Those guys work even more. And we hire Mexicans because they're cheaper and don't form Unions.

I respect your opinion and in many ways agree, but I must point out one simple fact. When Americans go to a fast food joint, and there is a long drive-thru line, and nobody at the counter indoors, 9 out of 10 will stay in their car for the sake of convenience. That, I think, is the big problem with Americans. It's not so much that we're lazy as it is that we've been seduced by convenience.

but that's another hasty generalization. you can probably find that anywhere, and that probably isn't THAT true in this country.

I don't think so at all. While I avoid generalizations, this one I will stick to because it is true. I also disagree that you would find this anywhere. Other nations have not been as seduced by convenience. Though some certainly have, most in other countries are still willing to walk the three blocks to the post office, rather than drive. Or go inside a store rather than use a drive-thru.

Do you have any proof or statistics saying that Americans are actually lazy? The problem with your argument is that it's not even anecdotal evidence... it's just a hasty generalization. I provided actual truth to my argument, that Americans work the most in the Western World and have the least amount of Vacation Days. That is evidence to cite that Americans are the exact opposite of lazy.

My proof is from being an employer and watching people work. Twenty years of pushing people to be productive, proof enough. Wake up and smell the roses, most Americans wouldn't wipe their own butt if there was another way. About having the least amount of vacation days, when one is on vacation while at work one doesn't need anymore time off. The number of hours one is at a location doesn't count as work. Work is defined as the, "Physical or mental effort or activity directed toward the production or accomplishment of something." If one is not productive than they did not work. What they did do is draw a paycheck, but not earn one.

I don't really understand what you were trying to say about vacation days. What we do know is that vacation is NOT WORKING and working IS WORKING. Americans have the concept of work hard and you'll make good money branded into their brain since birth. Hell, this is why many Americans in the business class actually work during their vacation. They truly are workaholics compared to Europeans.

My comment about vacations is that for most people a job is their vacation. One does not need a break from doing nothing. Who the hell has work branded into their brain? Give me some names so I can hire them. It sure isn't those in their 20's or 30's and most 40 year old don't have any work ethics. If you what to know who works, it is those 50 and up. My best employee is over 70. Most kids are spoiled and have never had to work. Run to daddy or mommy for everything, the only thing branded into them is a hand out.

welcome to the Western world, but that doesn't change that America puts in the most work hours in the West. You can use personal experience all you want, but America still works more than any other Western Nation. Maybe they don't like to be inconvenienced because they're tired from working 40 hours a week.

Have you seen who actually works in these corporations and fast food places? It is Mexicans and other foreigners, not Caucasian. We hire them because they work, period.

Like I said. They're cheaper and they do not form unions. That, to the business class, is a perfect worker.

Americans are not lazy. I think people got that from some fat Americans. There are fat people all over the world!

So what I am getting from this argument is that because the 'remote broke' Americans are lazy? And besides, you did not specify which type of Americans are lazy. Therefore, I choose Asian Americans. A majority of Asian Americans are not lazy, therefore Americans are not lazy. Argument resolved.

No; Americans aren't lazy. If anyone's lazy, it's those @#*! Mexicans.

What are you talking about you racist!? That is just a tired stereotype.
Oh, you mean the people who stand on street corners just to get work for the day? What a racist thing to say and so untrue!
