How do you know that the world you live in is not a dream?

how do you know that what you think is reality is really reality?  How are you positive that reality isn't just a figment of your imagination?  How do you know you exist?  How do you know I exist?

Speak your peace. (:

As Descartes said, "I think therefore, I am"

The only thing I can know is that I exist.

Everything else is a level of assumption. He came to this conclusion

by realizing that his senses can be fooled like when he is dreaming, therefore, they cannot be trusted to verify objective reality.

This is called solipsism.

I do enjoy the assumption that you all exist though.

Because either:

1. I am dreaming all of this so I must be a very intelingent and complex being. Doubt that.

2. It's a matrix situation and somebody created this dream. Nobody has the technology to make a dream this detailed. But then, yeah I know, "how would I know".

(If they do and they are watching, could you ad some more money to the dream?)

Because I can smell the air, feel the ground, see the sky. That doesn't seem to be like much of an argument but it's the only thing I have to go off. This world is real because it's the only thing I know.

Because I'm wide awake even though it's like 12:35 AM and I'm chatting w/ u. ;)

lmfao joe, i swear if i didn't know you that would totally sound like a pedobear move. xD

Side: complex being or more money please

What's a pedobear? You mean like me coming on to you?

Oh, BTW, in case you haven't noticed, there's a 50 character minimum limit now ;)

Nobody can ever be certain. I suppose we can argue that we are not in a dream because we can feel and experience things like the air, pain, love, etc. But it's possible that although we cannot feel in our dreams, we can feel in this life, which may be a dream. Therefore, we can feel in dreams, but not in dreams of dreams. Wow that's confusing.

Side: can't be certain

If I lived in a world of solipsism, then the world may not be real and every person I meet would not be real.
