Increased United States airport security -- for or against?
Recently, there has been much talk in the news about the new technology being used in American airports. The backscatter scanners and the images they produce seem to be particularly controversial. While the TSA says that these new scanners are effective and will increase air travel safety, others feel that these scanners are too intense. These feelings are most likely the result from fear that naked images of a person may end up on the internet. I, however, believe that the security measures in the United States need to be improved and updated. The security measures taken in the United States should be more similar to those used in Israeli airports.

at least if america are trying to look good, there image, at least people will be safe.. that is the main facture, for the individual to be secure in the knowledge their safe, and that their not going to get killed, whilst wanting a dam holiday.if people are not going to be protectived from these nutty mentally ill people, then people will stop wanting to fly . hows that going to bring in the money. Well, I believe United States airport security should be to a certain extent. The things security do to Muslims, Saudi Arabians, ect. could seriously get out of hand. Everyone should have an equal check, and no ethnicity should be more inclined to be further persecuted. However, it is still good for United States airports to be very secure against everyone since 9/11. A lot, but not too much. Side: Increase airport security

Although I don't necessarily believe racial profiling would be a successful measure in the United States, focusing more on the people rather than the bags checked by people would increase safety. It is the people who terrorize planes and airports, not their bags. Side: Decrease airport security

The amount of money spent doesn't justify the potential lives saved. Conversely, if we put less money into our military escapades overseas, there would probably be less potential terrorists. Publicly funding medical research with the money that is squandered on the TSA would likely save thousands of times the number of lives that backscatter detectors would. How could putting less money into military escapades decrease the number of potential terrorists? Putting more money into international relations would be the way to decrease the number of potential terrorists. Improving relationships with foreign countries is another measure the United States could take to improve not only airport security, but nation-wide security. Side: Increase airport security

I should have clarified -- the military escapades I'm referring to are those in Afghanistan and Iraq, which serve to reduce American rapport with the citizenry of the middle east. Hence, putting more money into international relations is rather misguided -- by putting less money into our international wars, we are in effect "putting more money" into international relations. I think that the airport security is to high. Did you know even Muslim children that haven't even done anything to anyone are put on the list for top people to watch for bombings? Cute little innocent children being cavity searched, and the other option is high radiation exposure. I think the airport security should be lowered. Side: Decrease airport security

How could the TSA's security measures be going too far when there have still been potential terrorists able to pass through security? If the TSA is trying to protect their image, they're doing a terrible job. Based on all the criticisms and videos posted online about the TSA, there is clearly a highly negative opinion toward them. I think the government wants to protect airline travelers, they just are not doing it as successfully as they could be if they implemented security tactics similar to those of Israel's Ben Gurion airport.
