Iraq is to be blamed as Iraq saw that invading Kuwait was an efficient way of resolving their economic problems.

The Iraq-Iran war was a problem outside of Kuwait with the issue of the control of trade of the Shatt al-Arab waterway. It was another problem of generating income that had Iraq involved. The fight for income result in the loss of its reserves for Iraq and it should be blamed for causing the problem in the first place.

After the Iraq-Iran war, Iraq was left in debt and had to rebuild itself, they felt invading nearby Kuwait was the best solution, even when Kuwait helped support Iraq during the Iraq-Iran war by providing Iraq with a $14 billion loan. Kuwait had aided Iraq as Kuwait was worried about the threat posed by Iran, especially after the Islamic revolution where it could cause the rise of Islamic fundamentalism which advocates strict adherence to the Quran and to Islamic law. Kuwait had done it for both itself and the rest of the Middle East. But Iraq ended up with heavy losses and decided to invade Kuwait and forget about the reason Kuwait helped them during the war.

Iraq should be blamed for the war because they started the dispute between them and Kuwait. During the Iraq-Iran War, Iraq was actually rich with US $35 billion in reserves. However, after the war, it's economy was in ruins and needed hundreds of billions of dollars to clear it's debts and rebuild it's economy. As a result, Iraq thought the best way to recover it's losses is by invading Kuwait in the year 1961, since Kuwait used to be part of Iraq during the Ottoman Empire and were only separated by the British. Therefore Iraq should be blamed for causing the Gulf War.

Iraq should be blamed for starting the Gulf War as Iraq was the one who invaded Kuwait for their resources. After 8 years of Iran-Iraq War, Iraq was unable to pay back the 14 billion USD from Kuwait that was used in the War. Other than that, Iraq is also in debt to the Western countries. Therefore, in order to pay off all of these debts, Iraq invaded Kuwait for their oil resources which is the fourth largest oil resources in the world. With such scare resources, Iraq will be able to rebuild their country within a short period of time with the new found revenue. Therefore, Iraq should be blamed for the Gulf War.

Iraq went to war with Iran. It's their debt to settle. No one owed them anything. They just invaded Kuwait because they saw it as an easy way out, and Kuwait just happened to be there.

What's the reason for the war and why did you say that it's an easy way out? What's the evidence that you have to support your argument.

If Iraq had not invaded Kuwait, the war would not have started. Saddam Hussein wanted to take control of the oil fields. Such is the cause of thirst for power. He would have had plans to take control of the oil fields sooner or later as their oil fields are not producing much, and in the long run, he knew that their economy would be affected. Iraq was devastated in the Iran-Iraq war and owed about $80 U.S billion and the cost to recover from the war was about $230 billion U.S dollars. As such, Saddam Hussein grew desperate. When he saw that Kuwait was producing oil above the quota by OPEC, he saw it as an opportunity. He believed that he was given the perfect opportunity; that now he had a reason to attack Kuwait to justify his desperate methods of using violence. Therefore, Iraq is the triggering cause of the Gulf War, thus Iraq should be blamed for the start of Gulf War.

Iraq is to Blame for the Gulf War Although accusations were made by Iraq, that Kuwait was slant drilling and stealing oil from Iraq, it was Saddam Hussein who initiated the first act of war, and attacked Kuwait. Iraq's economy was getting worse after the war with Iran and the war plunged Iraq into a deep financial crisis and debt which Saddam could not pay off. Since the sum was up to 400 billion, Saddam invaded Kuwait as Kuwait was full of resources and it was rich.

Saddam also wanted to lift his own national prestige by showing that he was a liberator. So he wanted to capture Kuwait so he could get funds to pay off the war debt and fund the reconstruction programme that he promised the Iraqi's after the war against Iran. It was the Iraqi choice to later occupy a sovereign nation, and therefore propel the conflict into the Gulf War. Without being instigated by Iraq, the war would not have escalated into a global affair; therefore total blame must be placed on Iraq.

Iraq should be blamed for starting the Gulf War as they were the first and main aggressor in this conflict.Firstly, Heavy in debt from the Iran-Iraq war, Iraq called on Kuwait to cancel the debts they held, reason being payments for protecting the Arabian Peninsula. When denied, Iraq threatened to reignite a conflict over Bubiyan and Warbah islands, that are important for trade. Secondly, through a meeting with the US ambassador, April Glaspie, over the accusation of Kuwait taking oil beyond their boders from Iraq and overproduction of oil, Iraq was warned of the use of violence to settle this issue. Despite warnings, Iraq invaded Kuwait based on these earlier disputes as reason, shortly after the meeting. Iraq, the main aggressor, threatened and then started the invasion of Kuwait, which would be beneficial to Iraq's economy as they would have control over the rich oil fields in Kuwait. Therefore, with this reason Iraq should be blamed for starting the Gulf War.

Iraq should be blamed because they use violence to solve issues for vested interest and personal gain.

Iraq blamed Kuwait for slant drilling, and used that reason to invade Kuwait. Furthermore, they were overproducing oil. They knew the consequences of invading, but still went on as they wanted to use violence to invade and take control of Kuwait's resources.

Hence, Iraq is to be blamed for the starting the gulf war.

Iraq Should be blamed as it used Kuwait as a way to improve its economy through violent means. This is evidebt where Iraq invaded Kuwait and destroyed their oil fuelds whilst fleeing the country. By doing so, thry have took many innocent lives just to rebuild their economy

Kuwait is to be blamed for the war as it caused most of the economic problems that Iraq was facing. After the Iraq-Iran war, Iraq was already greatly in debt, yet Kuwait was expecting Iraq to repay the money they had loaned to Iraq. Kuwait further worsened Iraq's economic problem by refusing to follow OPEC's regulations. They continued to overproduce oil causing oil prices to drop rapidly despite knowing that oil exports was the main source of income for Iraq. Iraq was then unable to reconstruct its county and owed over US$80 billion in debts. Hence, Iraq was forced to invade Kuwait to salvage its economy and get resources.

Kuwait should be blamed for the war as their actions such as the economic war they waged on Iraq forced Iraq to carry out the attack.

After the Iran-Iraq war, Iraq had massive debts to be paid and they also needed money to rebuild the country.

As Iraq's main income is from the sale of oil, Iraq had to pay off its debt by earning more revenue from the sale of oil. However, as Kuwait over produced oil and ignored the quota set by the OPEC, the prices of oil dropped , reducing the amount of revenue Iran could earn from the sale of oil.

Kuwait also carried out slant drilling at the Rumaila oilfield, stealing oil from Iraq's side of the oilfield. This reduced the amount of oil Iraq has to sell.

The slant drilling and over production of oil reduced the amount of oil Iraq has to sell and reduced the profits Iraq earns from oil to rebuild their country and repay their debts. Hence, Iraq was forced to invade Kuwait to gain more resources to repay its debts.

Kuwait should be blamed for the Gulf war as it did not cooperate with Irag's efforts to rebuild its economy after the Iraq-Iran war.

Kuwait ignored the quota set by OPEC and produced oil above their assigned limits despite being aware that Iraq's economy is in a bad state and this would worsen it. Iraq lost a lot of revenue due to the fall in oil prices. In addition, Kuwait also refused to compensate for the oil that it drilled from the Romalia oilfield. This made it difficult for Iraq's economy to recover after the eight year long war with Iran. Iraq felt that the actions of Kuwait was equivalent to waging an economic war on it and it had no choice but to invade Kuwait in order to obtain resources to rebuild its economy.

Kuwait should be blamed for starting the Gulf War. Firstly, they ignored the OPEC quota set and produced oil above their assigned limits. Causing price of one barrel of oil to drop significantly, this lead to tension between Kuwait and Iraq. Iraq which had economical problems, was also depending on the profits gained from oil trade to resolve their financial problems and rebuild their war-torn country. Secondly, Kuwait also did not allow Iraq to lease their islands, Bubiyan and Warbah. As Kuwait had the potential to block off Iraq's oil exports and threaten its revenues from oil trading, thus Iraq want to lease Bubiyan and Warbah from Kuwait. But Kuwait also rejected the lease as it was afraid Iraq would have even more territorial demands. Hence, this shows how selfish the Kuwaitis were and how they drove Iraq to a corner. Therefore leading to the Gulf War.

Kuwait should be blamed for causing the Gulf War. Before the Iran-Iraq war in 1980s, Iraq had a prosperous economy, with approximately US$35 billion in its reserve. However, after the war, Iraq suffered huge losses in its economy, and owed about US$80 billion. Iraq generates revenue from the sale of oil. To improve its economy, OPEC set a quota to stop the price of oil from dropping, but Kuwait continue to overproduce oil, even though Kuwait knew the price of oil would continue dropping and affect Iraq's economy. Kuwait also practiced slant drilling at Rumaila oil field to gain more oil from Iraq's oil field. This reduced the amount of oil Iraq could produce and sell, hence it affected Iraq's economy. Unable to improve its economy, Iraq had to go to war against Kuwait as a last resort.

First and foremost, the reason for Iraq's invasion was to settle their unstable economy. Why? Iraq is in debt to many countries such as Kuwait and USA after the 8 year long Iran-Iraq war. As a result, they had to find a way to earn that money to repay their debts and the main source of revenue for Iraq was through the sale of oil. However, Iraq was never able to sell the oil that they possess due to Kuwait's overproduction of oil.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) had set a quota for the amount of production of oil. This quota prevents the decrease in prices for oil so that every country providing oil will earn equal amount of money. Despite the rules, Kuwait overproduced oil, leading to a huge drop in the price of oil per barrel (US$18-US$7). As a result, Iraq was unable to sell their oil at their desired price and they are unable to earn money. This had angered Iraq, which had forced them to attack Kuwait for their oil as an alternative solution.

Due to undefined borders, the Rumaila Oilfield is split between Iraq and Kuwait. The oilfield is both countries' main source of revenue. In the 1990, Kuwait was stealing oil from the Iraq's side of the Rumaila Oilfield using slant drill technology. It is evident that Kuwait stole oil from Iraq as the levels of oil in the ground was decreasing exceptionally fast on Iraq's side. As such, Iraq demanded compensation from Kuwait but was refused. As a result, it has built up tension between the 2 countries, which eventually led to an all out invasion from Iraq.

In conclusion, Kuwait should be blamed as the had forced Iraq to a corner. Thus, Iraq had no other solutions except to invade Kuwait to resolve their issues (which was caused by Kuwait in the first place).

Kuwait should be blamed as when Iraq was trying to ask to be leased Bubiyan and Warbah Island so as to be able to have ports to export their oil. Iraq asked for this as after the Iran-Iraq war, Iraq was put into a large debt with Kuwait and needed money to rebuild its economy as well as pay off its debts. But Kuwait refused to lease the island to them as they wanted to block off Iraq's oil exports and threaten its revenues from oil trading. This together with Iraq and Kuwait fighting over the control of the Rumila oil field which is rich in oil deposits led to much tension. Kuwait didn't help Iraq by overproducing oil and making the oil prices lower which made it a much harder time for Iraq to earn money. With all these events happening Saddam Hussein had to invade Kuwait so as to get a hold on the economy as well as level the prices of oil

Kuwait should be blamed for the starting of the Gulf War as it instigated Iraq to attack by refusing to cooperate and stick to the quotas set by OPEC. This caused oil prices to plummet, reducing the profit that Iraq could obtain from selling oil. This was extremely bad for Iraq's already ailing economy after the Iran-Iraq war. This lack of cooperation forced Iraq's hand - Kuwait instigated the war by not working with Iraq to pull Iraq out of its economic slump.
