I'll assume we're talking about the most common depiction of knights and samurai. Knights, overall, were far better equipped than samurai. A katana would not be effective against full plate armour, and a knight's longsword would cleave through a samurai's armour easily. But who was more skilled? That one's up for debate. I do think, however, that if you were to strip them both of armour, then it's likely the samurai would win. A longsword is much heftier and slower to swing than a katana, which can be unsheathed and used to attack in one arm movement. Side: Knights
