It gives the impression that the School expects children to try to smuggle knives and weapons into school and thus if they get it past the metal detectors they feel that they have achieved something.

Before they obtain metal detectors they should probably get common-sense detectors for the staff, first.

in my point of view high level school should has a metal detector. first of all because aas we know usually administration of school buy and use metal detector for finding guns for students. In high school study people whom parents have good salary and can provide them children all necessary. usually children whom parents can not provide all necessary for life buy guns and any other weapon therefor i think that high level school doesn't need metal detector.

There have rarely been incidents involving a gun shootout in schools. We only fear shootouts because they have been so popularized by the media; big events (such as Columbine) have a lasting impression on our thoughts and fears. The actual chance of a shootout type incident occurring is extremely low, and therefore metal detectors would be a waste of money.

Why should high school have metal dectors? What are they going to use it for? I think its just going to be a waste of money.

Almost every school in America is broke, teachers barely get credit, students grades are worse than ever, administrations are blaming it on everyone besides themselves. All of the sudden, a letter gets sent home to every parent informing them that metal detectors will be installed in the front doors. Obviously, the school wouldn't have enough money for one. What do they do? Letter: We are taking trust funds from you savings account and the teachers salary to provide you with a safe and friendly school. Yeah, that's totally what we need!
