I think that the government is not necessary because most people can survive without the comforts it provides. Although it is true that the quality of life for most people would be significantly lower it does not mean that people would not be able to live happy lives. Also some governments don't provide the services that are necessary to keep its citizens healthy and safe so it wouldn't be wrong to say that some governments don't help the people who live under their control. People are also capable of doing what the government does on a smaller scale. An example of this can be found in defense while most governments have a military, you can defend yourself through multiple methods. In the end the government isn't necessary but we are all better off having it.
