It is not uncommon to see people living in West-European countries to adopt a homeless animal. Their desire to have a pet does not bring a necessity that the animal should be of a special breed, which usually costs a lot when the animal is still at a month's age. On the other hand the situation is a lot different in countries like Bulgaria, where people are reluctant to adopt an animal from the street or a shelter home. Reports and newspaper articles frequently tell stories about people being victims to a pack of stray dogs. In a way this has resulted in the people in Bulgaria to hesitate when deciding on a family pet. In the last 1-2 years an attempt to change the mindset of the urban society toward taking a stray dog as a pet has been made by activists and animal lovers as a solution to a more pressing problem - the large population of stray dogs. Local and global social media are being used to post ads about found stray puppies and kittens as well as fund-raising events have taken place in order to ensure that the little animals receive proper health care until they find a home. When the matter of dealing with stray dogs comes to the table, there are very controversial resolutions that people think is the best way of dealing with the problem. Because of the limited financial aid shelter homes for homeless dogs receive, many have resorted to letting the animals roam freely among the citizens of the big city. On the other hand there are proposals to legalize euthanasia of stray dogs as a solution to the problem. What is your take on the issue?
