50 Character Limit

The 50 character limit on debates. Do you like it or dislike it?

It stops those damn dirty trolls, but it means we can't post short snappy answers, which are often required.

Side: For

How ?

Side: For

I find that they are often required when I need to post something to congratulate someone when they have put a good debate, or to just say 'thanks' if a questions has been answered I didn't know the answer to.

Side: For

Notice I don't have 50 characters. It's easy to bypass.

So, no reason to be against.

How do you do that?

..............................................................

See! I have to put dots in order to ask a simple question.

Side: Against

At first i was against then i realized it is helpful, but then you get those who just put a whole bunch of "."'s after thers two words

SOME PEOPLE CRITISIZE OTHERS BY SLANGS LIKE F OFF F AND SO ON SO THAT IS AN EFFECTIVE AND SMART MOVE TO PREVENT THIS

It is so annoying. Type, type, type, type, type .

HOW did you type such a short one? Spaces? This won't let ME type a bunch of spaces!

Side: Against
2 points

No. Trolls can easily get past the character limit (ahjfj). And it limits the effectiveness of debates that would normally only require short character answers.

Side: Against

of course,,, even though it is not a dumb joke...

ugh... just like now

Side: Against

I'm not wild about it.

Side: Against
1 point

I don't like it at all because if I want a short answer then I have to write more then what I want to write. I personally think that you should get rid of it totally.

Side: Against
1 point

It's purpose is to improve the quality of debate and to reduce 'trolling.'

There are a few problems with that.

1) What is more "troll"-like? A 10 character spam message or a 500 character spam message?

2) It is so easy to get around its utility (if it had any to begin with) has already been nullified.

Side: Against

50 Characters is just too much. I can sum up some of my post in 25 characters. I hope they will take this down. Trolls will get past it anyway by spelling out random letters or dots. Just please get rid of it. I beg you.

Lol it's no fun if it's limited you cant do stuff like this!

i think it is annoying. sometimes the answer only requires one short answer. if it's under 50 characters, you have to add rubbish.

Side: Against
1 point

It's annoying, for if i want to give a straight forward answer like " Of course not." i have to strain it in to " Well, sir, i would like to say that in my opinion, obviously not! However you can say whatever you would like to, sir!"

Side: Against

Yah and it really is irritating

The minimum length for an argument is 50 characters. The purpose of this restriction is to cut down on the amount of dumb jokes, so we can keep the quality of debate and discourse as high as possible.

I don't like it but I don't care .

I'm potentially going to stop using CD because of this 50 character limit. I understand the reason for it; but it's frustrating and unnecessary. I can only hope that the owners of CD take note and think about that users/customers want.

Side: Against
1 point

I wouldn't say there is much point too it, as you can allway's use repetive '_'s

Side: Against

Both sides are okay but if you are old you got the wisdom to get around it.

IF SOMEBODY HAS GOT A GOOD PHRASE OR QUOTE HE HAS TO TYPE IN SOME OTHER RUBBISH TO FULFILL THE CHARACTER LIMIT

Side: Against

It is sooo annoying. Sometimes a question only takes a REALLY short answer, and you just have to sit and type random stuff.
