Are Liberals sinister?
The word sinister, comes from the Italian word sinistra, which means "left wing; liberal or Democrat". While the left was considered to be evil, the right was considered to be good. A word was made to express the right's "moral" way... righteous.

Liberals aren't leftists, they're center to center-right (international standards on the american contemporary definition). It actually refers "liberalis", which means "free" in latin, when the label was originally adopted, it referred to an espousal of free markets (which is the original meaning of "liberal", see "classic liberal"). I'm a Latin III student. Side: No
Then apparently leftists have redefined the term. Would you not consider many of the modern day "liberals" to be leftists? I think it would be fair to say that "liberal" has taken on different meanings around the world though... and isn't liber the Latin word for "free"? Side: Yes
Then apparently leftists have redefined the term. Would you not consider many of the modern day "liberals" to be leftists? Only in a country where "moderate" means gov't having 3rd lowest taxes in respect to GDP in the entire world. Leftist politicians in the US are strictly independent. I wouldn't. I think it would be fair to say that "liberal" has taken on different meanings around the world though... Absolutely and isn't liber the Latin word for "free"? It's incomplete, that's the basic form of it, "liberalis" is the adjectival form of "liber", (which by itself is ambiguous because it could be denoting the verb "libere" as well, which means "to free", you need to pick a form).
