I would just like to point out that this isn't a phenomenon exclusive to the american left. Many countries do this, and I would say it is more a feature of the traditionalist right, as they are the most likely to want to preserve such specific facets of their nation's culture, at whatever cost. I do agree that this is ridiculous, though in the article you linked me below, ESPN can technically do whatever they want when hiring employees. Chunky Schumer sure is trying his damnedest to widen the gap between the two camps. Does this fool not recognise that people are proud of their linage which their family name represents and wouldn't betray their cherished heritage to curry favour with those of a different credo. In many countries such a suggestion could fall foul of their ''unlawful religious and/or racial'' discrimination legislation such as in Northern Ireland where successful prosecutions have taken place against those who have proposed that a name change would assist in securing a job or make it safer to work in certain areas. For an American this man is not only a fool , but an arrogant and insensitive fool. |
