Meditation is one the best things that you can do for yourself. I have used meditation to deal with a poor memory, to relax my body for sleep if I am having a panic attack, and so on. I plan on taking up yoga again. Yoga does not have to be Hindu or any other religion. It is what you want it to be. Side: yes

I dont know what you've been trying so cant comment if you are doing it wrong or not, there are many ways of meditating, the best thing to do is do something that you can do without thinking. Learning martial arts is one way, I will practice my Kata which helps me because it's something I can do without thinking so my mind is free to roam, just listening to some music you can relax to can help as well. Another way is investing in some Chinese Health Balls, as they can help you relax and stop thinking and they also massage the pressure points in your palm. Do or do not, there is no try But seriously, dont "try" to meditate, dont "expect" anything, as this will put your mind in a state of anxiousness, and you will not be able to quiet it down. 45 mins, with back straight breath through nose you probably know all the basics... But: wear sweats and a long sleeve shirt, turn your light on, focus on individual body parts, relaxing each one of them, focus on one thing and one thing only, just repeat it in your mind over and over, or better yet, tell your brain you want it to pull up past memories, or whatever youre trying to do Tell your brain not to worry that it cant die where you are (thats its main worry) just push everything away, if thoughts enter your head, push them away...
