Does modern understanding of the digestive system contradict the story of Jonah?

Well, here's the thing. This is the bible, which means it's open to a wide array of possible answer. One of which could be the Lord's power at work. Whale's aren't fish I agree. However, the authors in that time period did not. To them it was a giant fish, and thus they are correct by their own perspective. Whale's don't eat people Very true indeed, Hellno. Whale do not eat Humans, but this the bible, almost anything can happen (Not saying your wrong, just saying nearly anything can happen). Jonah would be dead I cannot dent that. He would have been digested I believe. Again, however, this is the bible. In the end you may be correct. I prefer to side with you on this. I just want to point out that the bible has too many possibilities in it. Side: Yes
I agree. However, the authors in that time period did not. To them it was a giant fish, and thus they are correct by their own perspective. Genesis 1:21 "And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good." In the King James version, Whales are mentioned in Genesis and the fish that swallowed Jonah is just referred to as a "fish". So, I wonder if The Book of Jonah is actually older than Genesis... or maybe the fish was just that, a fish. Side: Yes

I am sure Jonah could have survived in a whale or great fish. The Scriptures say that God has prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. Now I am assuming God had created a supernautral large fish to swallow Jonah whole. Also whales and whale sharks have been discovered to have whole animals in their bellies. And since the digestion of whales or other large sea animals' digestion process does not begin if the prey is still alive. I would say it is true. Also when a whale swallows it has quite a lot of air to sustain Jonah for three days. More likely, that it was a different species than of the whale. Side: Yes

Jonah 1:17 says "Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah." So, since the LORD prepared it, it isn't just some ordinary fish. It's a magical fish filled with oxygen, bottled water and Hot Pockets....and a microwave to heat them up....and the microwave runs on magic, not electricity. Makes perfect sense. Side: No
I think by "prepared", it means that God gave the fish a pep talk. "Alright fish, Jonah's going to be coming through here on a boat in a little while. I need you to swallow him and don't let him sink into your digestive juices for three days. After that he'll realize that he should have never disobeyed Allah..." "Allah?" "Huh? Oh... no! I mean Yahweh." Side: No
