How do religions explain the dinosaurs?

Add New Argument
3 points

From my experience, I've heard 2 different arguments from Christianity:

1. Fossils and dinosaur bones were all created at the same time as man and put deep into the ground by God to test man's faith.

2. Dinosaurs lived at the same time of the creation of man, so much so as to share the Garden of Eden with men. But, they all perished during the Great Flood because Moses didn't give a shit about the dinosaurs, just like he didn't with the unicorns and dragons.

Of course to me, it's all a fairy tale and the dinosaurs did exist millions of years ago before the planet even had it's shape that it does now.

But these are the religious points I've heard before that explain the dinosaurs under the Bible.

The fact that one religion has two seperate arguments about the topic should be proof enough that they made this shit up.

I agree. BUT, Christianity has so much variation that you can't be totally serious about them making it up :P The whole thing about dinosaurs existing at the same time of man was actually scientifically backed up.

But the evidence only seemed to prove that certain dinosaur species have lived in a scarce population since their original extinction.

So yea, it's made-up cockery.

While I do think that religions are fairytales, I don't think that one religion having different viewpoints means the religion is a lie.

Now, if one person offered two contradictory explanations for the same thing, and made no attempt to reconcile the contradiction, that is a cause for concern.

But when we talk about a religion, we're talking about the collective beliefs of lots of people from various places spanning a long period of time. It's only natural for different people to have differing beliefs, even though they all categorise their beliefs under an umbrella term like "Christianity" or "Hinduism". There are internal debates and differences within a religion, just as there are within pretty much any discipline.

http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/1999/11/05/dinosaurs-and-the-bible Read that one. The reason you cant belief it is because scientists, rather thans seeking understanding, only seek on airing their own opinions, that just so happen to support the way of life that they enjoy. If their is no God, their is no need to follow the difficult standards of righteousness that pure Christianity promotes.

Well, since most religions were fabricated before dinosaurs were known, they have the unenviable task of twisting evidence and logic into an often incoherent explanation, or a flat out denial of reality.

But since many religious devotees have little use for logic or evidence, this doesn't end up being as hard of a task as it should be, as long as they are preaching to the choir.

God was a lot younger back then... he was just experimenting and having a good time.

Dinosaurs were on our planet for millions of years without humans. How does religion explain this? If any religion has an explanation, I'd like to know it. What took God so long to put humans, which he had created in "his image", onto Earth? Maybe he came up with dinosaurs first and got bored of them and erased them off Earth and decided to start fresh with a new species.

Many Young Earth Creationists (YEC) will say that they weren't here millions of years and that radiometric dating is wrong. How they managed to organize themselves in the geologic column according to age, well.....I haven't gotten an answer for that question yet.

Eh, there's a lot of theory's out there. I've always been told that dinosaurs roamed the earth for millions of years. I wasn't alive to see it so I guess I'll never know.

Well, it varies depending on who you ask.

I once argued with a Muslim man who claimed that all dinosaur bones were fake.

I've talked with some Christians who completely accept the evolutionary time-line.

Yet other Christians have told me that Dinosaurs are the Behemoth and Leviathan mentioned in the bible.

I believe the last one. http://www.clarifyingchristianity.com/dinos.shtml

Leviathans and Behemoths are all the dinosaurs categorized down to two http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/1999/11/05/dinosaurs-and-the-bible.
