Is art a waste of time?

It's not that productive in the regards of advancing society or bringing about any changes in government.

Though it's a great outlet for non violence, and for most modern art it provides construction jobs.

Modern art of a bow

What do you think?

I gave a starter argument for both sides. I am willing to be convinced but will debate both sides until formally swayed.

Side: Yea I guess

Well, not all art is a waste, but abstract art is where it looks like a two year child did it, though eye of the beholder right.

How is art a waste. if you see my other comments, you see I'm not attacking you personally I just want findings. Thewayitis gave a link of scientists like Einstein using art to to gain access to more of their brain.

I have since been convinced of their side.

Pictures, books, sculptures, movies, video games, music, dancing. Even in cars, buildings, clothes, language itself.

What you're looking for is beauty and harmony, or similar, and if it is artificial (made by humans) and has that in it then it also includes or is at least partly art.

Side: Not really

I didn't think about that. That is all great contributions due to art.

Side: Not really

I wish you could explain to the people who say art isn't a waste, with no grounds.

Your argument is only saying that artists show how they feel. That sounds like an unproductive waste of time. Why do we as the public need to know how some artist feels? Especially at a price.

man 11 wolf is right about u. u r so stubborn. ok here is the thing dumass these people have talent that no one else have. lets say ur really good at art but not anything else. u need a job which would u pick a job ur good at or some lousy job u hate hey ur choice. but really ur exactly what 11wolf said u will be

let me reiterate.

If you're trying to prove how art is not just a waste of time, how it's actually doing something for society like the debater above you had said, then you have to give more information that some guy you're paying expressing his emotions.

Have you seen any modern art lately, the only thing creative about it is how the artist in question managed to get people to buy it.

A white square on a black background should not be considered art, especially when you're paying for it.

yes i have seen art currently. i am new, but only 11wolf so far but thanks for an idea for some allies. so wat make u choose this topic. next is that if it not so important then y do most schools have art class, pretty much the entire united states. but if u wounder y need art well y do we need sports. wat will that help us with. see most people have different talents and some of these are the artist they want to do what their good at. like what 11wolf said that what make them themselves but that is my opinion but people like u have different opinions. hey its ur stupid mind u can think what u want.am i right but here is the thing y did u make this debate. im curious.so im guessing u met 11wolf now he is stubborn but that's my thought what about u.

Without any proof that's just an artful quote.

Using art to justify art's purpose is like using a holy book as evidence of religion's honesty.

Obviously you don't know who Ernst Levy is.

"......he constantly sought new vistas within the parameters of tonal music. He went so far as to study the writings of Pythagoras and the mathematical similarities between musical scales and star distances explored by Keppler."

Using art to justify art's purpose is like using a holy book as evidence of religion's honesty.

Or using the Bible as evidence to discredit religion, as many atheists attempt to do.

Supporting Evidence: The proof that art represents science and science, art. (www.marstonrecords.com)

Some art is but, good art isnt. I like art but not some giant bow sticking out of the ground! That just looks like crap! Good art is like a realisic painting or statue.

Before this argument between you and i turn sour let me start by saying this is written with no malice.

You are not proving how art is actually a good use of time. You are leaving your view on some kinds of art.

Just because people enjoy video games don't make them productive. Many would argue that they are a waste of time, if they are not helping you to learn.

I want to know how art is not a waste of time, not just how some is good or bad.

Art is not a waste of time! Often people of great minds think of art and is important in school though not as important as learning to read and math.

There is a need to enjoy life present in all human beings.

The arts help this.

Side: Not really

Art serves as an expression. There are various forms of art and art should be encouraged.
