With the way that this question is worded it seems that Russia made a bad decision. Had they kept Alaska they would've been able to profit from what has been discovered since it was sold. This includes the gold rush, and current things such as tourism, oil, and other plentiful resources.
I believe that it is possible for war to be justified. This does not apply to all wars, but it is an option that should remain valid. War can be justified with just war principals such as last resort. If a side has nothing more they can do, it would actually be unjust to not go into war and let themselves remain in danger. Even though war usually ends in destruction, it can provide hope for an overall better future.
