There is no better debate website. There are some sites that say they are, but they do not practice freedom of speech, they do not allow any and all topics and most importantly, they are sell outs (they sell your data to political parties). Stay here and invite your friends, enemies and everyone else.
So this is an easy one. Facebook sucks...people who use Facebook do so because they want to have a digital social life. I hate Facebook...I only use it because certain people and companies have no other social presence. Ugh...they need to get a life. Oh, and about vaccination, I think people are "advertising" it because they want others to do so as well.
Thanks for noticing. I have been cleaning up the spammers. Over the last six weeks I have deleted 8000+ spam accounts as well as over 4000 debates. I am almost to the point where I am able to clean all the new spam each day. I have also asked my developer to add some additional measure to prevent spamming. I have also been deleting duplicate accounts as I find them.
Dear spchtchr, The membership here can be over zealous at times. I have asked them to stay off of debates that are clearly education based debates. I think the best opportunity for you would be to create you own public community. It is free of charge and while anyone can join, most people don't look at the other communities. Here is a link to setup your own. It takes less than one minute. Then you can post your debates safely there. If any of our members join, you (or I) can ban them from your community.
https://www.createdebate.com/site/
Under education select get started and on the next screen choose the free option.
Then provide your students with the link to your very own community and let them debate!
Let me know if you have any questions via the messaging system.
Best regards,
Andy
I think it depends on the school and current hours, but I do not think school hours should change. If we shortened them children would lose out on education time. If we lengthen them, we short them sports, extra circulars activities and the opportunity to work a job.
We can't control what isn't controllable. We can't stop the problem at the border as it goes much deeper than that. There are too many issues going on in Mexico and Central America. We can't solve those problems, they need to solve the problem. It will take decades to affect change. So we should support efforts to fix it, but we need to be realistic.
After watching the trial so far, it is clear that he used too much force for too long. I don't think they will be able to Convict on third or second degree murder, but they are setting up and will likely be able to prove the second degree manslaughter charge. From what I read that will give him up to 10 years in prison. I am concerned that he has three charges against him and they all will be considered separately. Therefore, he could be convicted on all three charges!!! I think that is bizarre and is only being done because they want a conviction. All I can say is that this is a tragedy for everyone involved and needs to be quickly dispatched.
Well, it is unfortunate that everyone feels that way. I did my best to run the site for 10 years. I gave it my all for the first six or so. Then everyone started complaining about this member or that member. I ran them off, but they came back and id horrific things to the site which I had to spend thousands of dollars to fix/clean/prevent. Running them off caused a vacuum on the side of certain debates. So now what is left? Only those people who have similar mindsets or one or two trolls that I have not been able to get rid of (yet). If you have ideas and want to help I am all ears...they just can cost a ton of cash to implement.
BTW, The site costs about $300 to run each month and I see about $30 in advertising revenue a month.
Yes, it will continue. I am working right now on cleaning up the advertising spammers. Then will come the "great cleansing" where some of the people will get their accounts banned...after a very strong warning before deleting them.
Just to clarify, I have started a separate business. This was a hobby. It got out of control and despite spending thousands of hours cleaning up after the many vicious trolls over the last decade. I only pop in now and again to clean what is in the reported log. I lose money on the site every month. Based on what I am reading I should just shut it down. Do you agree?
No, you must not live in the real world. I protect myself by having ZERO information about anyone...the only information I can see is the IP address of who is logged in when they are logged in. I have to do that because the site has international members. There are laws that prohibit me seeing and knowing anything else without the members permission. Your email addresses are password protected and only you can change them. BTW, most of the members use some type of VPN/Anonymizer. So, I would stop accusing and if you are not happy leave. There is nothing I can do other than delete arguments, debates and ban members for not following the rules. I have enough reports to keep me busy forever. I don't have time to read every post and see everything going on. If you would like, I can delete your member account.
As I said before, I delete what is reported. I don't have time to read every post on the site. Have YOU ever reported any arguments or debates? If the used the N word or the F word (and you reported them) then they were DELETED. You have to be part of the solution not the problem.
And I have no way to battle the multi account situation if they are using multiple IP addresses (i.e. any of the zillion ways to mask an IP address) because I can't definitively ascertain which accounts are duplicate.
So, will you be part of the solution? If so, let me know and I will work with you to clean up the site.
Thanks,
Andy
You don't understand how this works! I delete what is reported if it is against the rules. And by the way, there were many times "chinaman" had posts deleted. I think you are seeing this through a one-way lens. What's the old saying "If you see something REPORT IT!". If you report it and it has the n word, I will delete it. If you don't report it I won't know about it. So what was likely happening is that there were people reporting you much more often than chinaman.
If Google Adsense saw you telling people to click ads you would have your account cancelled.
Well, I never told them to click them I said if they want to see improvements I would need people to click on ads or donate via crowdsourcing
The white space is nothing to do with the ads. The div with a class of shareaholic-canvas has property clear: both. Remove that at replace it with a margin-top. The whole layout is a mess but that will fix that at least.
The white space has everything to do with ads because is wasn't there until I changed to let adsense put ads wherever they think they will best drive conversions
As for the SSL certificate... it's completely free. Just takes a little effort and not having one is hugely damaging to SEO.
Yes, it is free...and I haven't had the time.
Honestly, what have you spent all that money on? Why didn't you just skill up and do it yourself?
Half went to purchase the site and I spend $400 a month for AWS, Support, etc. Having owned the site for 10 years, you can do the math. As far as time, I have a full time job, so does my wife. I have three kids, two of which are special needs and that takes up a significant amount of time. I like having a little bit of a life so I pay a contractor to do the work when he is available.
Atrag, the reason for the white space is that i tried to use a different version of adsense to see if my conversions would pick up. Unfortunately, they remain low. A good month 8-10 years ago was $300 (which almost covered costs). Now a good month is $30. why would I invest any more money into the site when over the course of the 10 years I have spent just shy of $100,000 on it. I could certainly turn parts of it into a pay model, but that wouldn't run off the people making it ugly. If people want change (mobile, fixes for the white space, they are either going to have to spend some time clicking links or pony up some crowdfunding).
I agree with HighFalutin...time is relative to your position. If you are moving at the same speed as the objects you are with (people on the earth), your perspective of time doesn’t change. But, take the concept of light from a sun/star traveling across the universe. If say for example that light was traveling to the earth, but the earth was moving away from the light then, time might appear to be different. The difference is either faster or slower depending on your perspective.
Free market is for me. In socialism/communism, a few elite live better off the hard work of others (wait that sounds like free market)...with the exception that in free market everyone has a "chance" to break out of the socio-economic class they were born into.
Well, it was my own fault. I was cleaning up a bunch of domains I had purchased over the past year and were pointing their DNS to GoDaddy’s cash parking (a place to make advertising money for a domain where you don’t have a regular site operating). I accidentally switched CD to the same thing...yes, it was just under 24 hours, but it could have felt like more as the DNS records have to propagate through the internet.
Sorry!
We have already fallen! It started right after Ronald Reagan left the Whitehouse...we have had too many weak president (not an issue of party) and that has allowed our enemies to grow stronger and caused us to fall from grace in the eyes of our allies and friends.
While I am not sure if she needs more to eat...though there are studies which say the more you weigh the more you desire to eat, but she does need to keep her free speech rights to her own world and not hide behind an institution of education. I say fire the hate speech orca.
Dear Outlaw60,
I do not believe myself to be racist either consciously or subconsciously. To your point about cleaning up the site and banning people...I spend most of my time cleaning up debates, arguments and members THAT ARE REPORTED! If you report them, I look at the debates, arguments and if a member their prior posts and determine next steps. Often the first next step is to ask them to STOP the behaviour in question. Often what I get in return is 100x the behaviour I was asking them to stop or curtail. Then I BAN them. I have had discussions with Antrim, Dermot, Joe, Hellno and many others including YOURSELF. Those members who understood, or at least decided to comply were able to debate uninterrupted. For those who were banned, I have even offered to let them come back in under their original member name. There has been only one member (who is still on the site) who has ever really caused damage beyond repair, and that member will go unnamed. So, if you report it, it will be dealt with.
No, it isn't against any rule to make a statement (either in the debate body or an argument), but debates by their nature have to be posed as a question due to the fact that you can't have a debate about a statement. You can have a debate about a question.
Non-Question based example debate title: The sky is blue.
Debate body: I think the sky is blue - prove me wrong
People can certainly debate the sky is blue or debate your statement, but why not just state the question.
Question based example debate title: Do you believe the sky is blue:
Debate body: I think the sky is blue - prove me wrong
People can now debate you because you have actually posed a question for them to debate.
Clearly you don't understand the concept of debate if you don't know that debates start in the form of a question...or do you? Should we debate it?
Simply look at the link below...click on any topic and you will see each is posed as a question.
Clearly you don’t understand how the site works. If you see something/someone who breaks the rules, then report the argument or debate. they will receive their warning and one chance and then I will ban them.
I ask you if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one around to hear it did it make a sound...of course it did...but nobody cares.
Furthermore, I have offered to unban any account that has been banned if they promise to play by the rules...
SO WHAT SHALL IT BE? Continued attacks on me or stepping up and being a valued member of the site?
Also look above...clearly you are too sensitive to certain words. Only two of those really break a rule. The others are just immature comments.
So what shall it be? Are you in or are you out? If you are a good contributor, then come back and play by the rules.
Oh, I also formed your debate topic in the form of a question...you are welcome.
