Power isn't derived from oppression or the domination of a resource
An individual's power is determined by his ability to exert control over other people and in our modern day and age an individual gains power by providing people with more of the things they want: a politician gains power by supporting an agenda people are interested in, an employer gains power by providing people with jobs, a supplier gains power by supplying people with goods, an investor gains power by giving people investments, etc.. if an individual has more power than a contemporary it's because he's providing people with more of what they want than his contemporary, him forfeiting his power for his contemporary means less people are provided with what they want as if his contemporary was as capable as him of providing people with what they want he wouldn't have less power than him.
An individual's capability of supplying people with their desires isn't based on his possession of their desires but ability to sustain the production of their desires as In order to maintain anything one must continually produce it as everything depreciates into nothingness over time.
