Why? Atheists are the ones not in a religion.

You could celebrate birthdays of famous scientists/peace activists or days of famous scientific/otherwise achievements or discoveries.

Or you could celebrate the holidays of the wheel of the year, which would be little change from what we already have, and they're equally spaced.

They tried doing this with Sagan Day until they realized that he was a theist that disliked atheism. Oops!

They already have the National Day of Reason.

Based on the definition I see no reason for it to not be okay.

Hell, it wouldn't even need a reason. It could be like Arbor day or Valentines day.

Atheist could have a holiday at the start of ever new season they'd be called Season's Day. We'd celebrate the growing earth.

Side: Sure... okay.

Yeah, and we could all sit around and make fun of theists and wear hats that look like Mother Earth. ;)

Dressing up is a little too religious.

I'd say more of just a do nothing day where gifts relating to the season are exchanged.

Holidays are just breaks from work and other obligation, and are demonstrated to be beneficial not only for individuals but for society at large. There is no reason that holidays must be religious, and no reason that non-theists should have no holidays.

i say Free Day

since atheist dont live by a religious "rule book" and can do basically what ever they want, have a Free Day where they can do....what ever they want, go out, party, spend time with other atheists.

Side: Sure... okay.

Everyone needs a holiday, if not for celebrating then for the fun of it.

I don't believe in anything, but the rest of my family is christian and I looove spending christmas, easter an everything else with the, even though it doesn't really mean the same for me at is does to them.

I think you should celebrate christmas, like most other people. It's ful of joy, family, love and PRESENTS!! how can you say no to that?

Side: Sure... okay.

NATIONAL FREE-THOUGHT DAY! Everybody makes it their effort to make good choices and be tolerant to everyone including theists! And we all try to exchange presents that have real genuine meaning to the recipient and even theists can give presents because we don't exclude anyone. Like if atheist parents find out their child is a theist they still get respect and presents! Because its about respect, tolerance, and love for all. I feel fuzzy inside...I need a tums

We actually have dozens already come to think of it. Every holiday that isn't a religious one is an atheistic one. For example, Arbor Day, flag day, earth day, April fools, Presidents' Day, MLK jr day, Independence Day, cinco de mayo, ect.

None of these have any religious association so they're technically atheistic. Though I suppose s better word is Secular.

Side: Sure... okay.

If you're not religious you don't deserve the privilege of being it.

Yes I even would apply this rule to myself and say I don't deserve a special holiday.

Technically, atheism is a religion, and no one is forcing you to celebrate. Similarly, if you're christian, you're not forced to celebrate Chanukah. So why shouldn't Atheists have a holiday if they want one?

A holiday doesn't have to be religious. For example: Arbor Day, flag day, Presidents' Day, Columbus Day, Boxing Day, April fools day, MLK jr day, the 4th of July, cinco de mayo, ect. These are all holidays and technically they are all atheist holidays because they have no religion association.

Side: Sure... okay.
