Donald Trump is doing an atrocious job as President

Donald Trump's presidency has been widely criticized even as he retains massive support among the average Joe and Jane. The time has come to see if Trump is actually a bad president or a good one.

"Atrocious?" Why be so nice about it?? The U.S. Presidency, under Trump, has lost its respect around the world. He says we are no longer called "suckers" around the world. He is wrong … again. "They elected Trump …. suckers!"

We no longer are the police of the world …. Russia is! Great!

A big reason for the hatred against Trump is the remarkably large amount of negative information we consume daily. If we kept our eyes open and thought about everything we read deeply, we would start understanding the rationale behind the actions, and they wouldn't be as far-fetched as we initially thought.

Coming back to the topic:

1) Chinese Tariffs: The US in the past was taken advantage of by other countries, where the US' exports were far exceeded by the imports. Now, Trump is trying to change the status quo and balance trade. In this light, it starts to make sense that other leaders aren't very fond of such changes.

Another lesser-known reason for the tariffs on China: Forced tech transfers. Sometimes, China demands that foreign companies hand over their technological know-how in order to access China's domestic market. (https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2018/12/12/forced-tech-transfers-must-stop-or-be-regulated-eu-ambassador-to-china.html) This is completely unregulated and arbitrary. The President is against this random, exploitative behaviour and this is another reason for his actions.

2)Pulling out US troops from Syria and Afghanistan: After the announcement of troop withdrawals from Syria and Afghanistan, the President received a lot of flak. However, the President is right as the United States need not be the policeman of the Middle East, or for that matter, any region in the world. When US troops enter somewhere, they are criticized. When they are fighting somewhere, they are criticized. And when they finally leave, they are also criticized! It is time for the countries of Syria and Afghanistan to move forward on their own, and their citizens to carve out their own future.

3) Immigration: The President has cracked down on illegal immigration, and rightly so. Data collected by the Department of Justice and Homeland Security tells us startling statistics: One fifth of the inmates in federal prisons were suspected or illegal aliens, and 93% of the confirmed aliens were in the US illegally. (https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/departments-justice-and-homeland-security-release-quarterly-alien-incarceration-report). Information from economist John Lott paint a bleak picture: Undocumented immigrants are at least 142% more likely to be convicted of a crime than other Arizonans. They also tend to commit more serious crimes and serve 10.5% longer sentences, more likely to be classified as dangerous, and 45% more likely to be gang members than U.S. citizens. (https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3099992). These numbers establish beyond a doubt the threat illegal immigrants pose to national security and in light of this, the Trump administration's zero tolerance policy begins to make sense.

In conclusion, I would like to say that the decisions the President takes may appear far-fetched and detached, but carefully scrutiny and understanding of the context will reveal the rationale of the various decisions that have been taken.

Hello C:

Nahhh…. Our economy is 10 times BIGGER than ANYONES. By that metric ALONE, one can see that trade ISN'T equal, nor should it be EXPECTED to be equal..

Trade wars are BAD, not good.. In fact, China USED to buy MOST of our soybeans.. For the last 6 months, they haven't bought ANY, and our soybean farmers are going broke..
